It's crazy that this is considered wild when every other level of NCAA football from FCS to D3 has a playoff spot for every conference champion included.

There are a few conferences that don't go (Ivy, MEAC, SWAC) for their own reasons, but there is a spot for every conference champion.

Seeing as how they just came up with a playoff format, they'll probably need to expand the playoffs up to 30 teams before they let every conference have a shot.
That's the issue 100%.

The ONLY way the G5 gets all their conference champs in is if ESPN/the committee can get at least 8-10 teams EACH from the $EC and B1G into the tournament....which defeats the whole purpose. They want to overload it with big brands to ensure SOMEONE among the Blue Bloods is standing at the end.

The B1G/SEC homers best argument is "we play a tougher schedule against better teams every week compared to G5."

That's a legit argument........but they also have more alumni, resources, TV deals etc. It's not like Boise or some other G5 can just submit an application to the SEC and get approved same-day. CFB/CFP basically punishes non-SEC/B1G schools for shyt they cannot control. The Blue Bloods have a tougher path but the tradeoff is more money, prestige, top recruits etc. The G5 conference champs get the easier path but give up all the $$$$ and other perks of being in a Power 4 conference.

CFB at the FBS level is not about crowning a champion. It's a Miss America pageant with judges.

This year, the Big 10 and SEC are living off of past accomplishments. There is a lot of parity in college football right now.

The media is also has an incentive to prop up the SEC and Big 10 because of the billions they pay in media rights to cover their games. They also control the rankings.

And if the playoff system was designed to where every conference champion got in, from a recruiting standpoint there would be no incentive for a high school or transfer portal player to want to automatically go to an SEC or Big 10 school. That would level the playing field even more.
