The only way to make it work is to blow it up completely and realign conferences, then make a tournement of champions.

Reform the heritage pac 10, reform the 10 team big ten. That is one superconference with 20 teams everyone has 9 division games, 2 out of division games, 1 ooc game.

The combined SWC, Big 8, and new big 12 teams = 21 teams. Kick out cincinatti and you have another 20 team superconference. See above.

(Ill continue later)
i agree blowing it up and realigning conferences makes sense

I'll tell you what the most likely solution will be.

They'll keep a spot open for the best 5 conference champs.

Top 2 seeds for the 2 best conference champions, 2 byes for the next two best teams, removing the rule that ND can't have a 1st round bye.
Or best 3 conf champs + next best team for the byes.
This way thr bracket would get to more closely resemble the rankings.

I don't see them going up to or past 16 when all the networks and conferences love that Championship Game weekend.

It would have given

1 Oregon
2 Georgia
3 Texas
4 Penn State

5 Notre Dame vs 12 Clemson
6 Ohio State vs 11 Arizona State
7 Tennessee vs 10 SMU
8 Indiana vs 9 Boise State

or

1 Oregon
2 Georgia
3 Boise State
4 Texas

5 Penn State vs 12 Clemson
6 Notre Dame vs 11 Arizona State
7 Ohio State vs 10 SMU
8 Tennessee vs 9 Indiana

You actually think the ACC and Big 12 going to vote for none of their teams to make the playoff? :russ:.

All of you are creating worse systems than what is in place.
This is MY playoff tourney idea, lol.

Greg Sankey was right about this playoff format being meant for Power 5 conferences not 4.

The top 4 byes would've gone to Oregon, Texas, Georgia, and Ohio State if realignment didn't happen.

That's too bad.

It's not even a year ago that they changed the playoffs from giving the auto bids from the top 6 conference champions to the top 5.

All it did was give us SMU instead of Army.

Going back to the old conferences aint happening. The Big 10 and SEC schools are making way too much money for that. Hell, ND just got $14 million for their win yesterday alone, compared to the SEC having to divide $14 million for Texas's win and the Big 10 getting $28 million for Ohio St and Penn St's wins. That toothpaste is out the tube.

Conf championship games are too lucrative for all conferences. No other way to find a champ in a 16 or 18 teams conference.
8 this year would have left out Ohio St among others
Qtrs would have been- Clemson/Oregon, Ariz St/Georgia, Boise/Texas, and Penn St/Notre Dame.

8 is too low. 12 leaves the top 4 teams with 3+ weeks off. 16 is the best option

I've decided to just visualize it. This includes every cfb team
CFB-fixed.png

You play your way in as a major conference. 1 champion from the others gets the fourth berth.

Scheduling is the same for everyone; you face your 9 division opponents, 1 from the other division, 1 from another major conference, 1 from an G6 conference.

Round 1 of the playoffs are the division title games. Fiesta, Cotton, Peach, Gator, Citrus, and Indianapolis (Big ten bowl?).
Round 2 are the conference title games, on 1/1, Rose, Sugar, Orange. The Liberty, Alamo, Sun, Motor City, Holiday, and Pop Tarts are also played during this window of time between the holidays.

Winner of Rose, Sugar, and Orange face the a choice of the other championship.

If a team thinks they're worthy then they should've won their division and conference like every other sport in existence.

TYRONE GA!
My idea:
16 team bracket, but all 10 conf champs get in. This leaves 6 at large (including Notre Dame). Conf champs do not get higher seeds though. Higher seeds host 1st round.

SMU still gets last spot. Alabama, Miami, Ole Miss still miss out due to all the conf champs getting in. But this eliminates the byes AND gives all the top seeds 1 earned home game. Most would still be blowouts though.

100% this

All FBS Conference Champs get in

No special Notre Dame Clause (they would have made it this year regardless)

Move season start back a week

Eliminate the conference championship game or have at least two weeks before the start of playoffs

Sidenote: Transfer Portal needs to open after season ends imo

The number of teams don't matter, The quality of the teams do. I know ND and Ohio St. dog walked powerhouses schools, but Boise St. SMU, shouldn't have been there.
