Too many shots need to be made between Melo, KP, and Timmy. for all three to be effective. ..... of those 3 KP would be the one likely to fall back ..... Then Frank needs to get reps in there as well as Willy...... Plus the Knicks still don't got a PG besides Baker
Besides Baker? :stopitslime:
I know you ain't talking about Baker the Shot Maker like that. :leostare:

This is just an offer sheet tho. Have the Hawks said they won't match?

I understand most of what you're saying.

The only thing is, I still don't see how this was the type of move people were afraid of.

I thought we were afraid of vets in their prime or at the end of it being signed as a way to give Melo a last hurrah into glory which would be contradictory to a rebuild.

I was more afraid of Rondo - regardless of whether he'd show Frank any tools of the trade.
----------------------------------------

Disclaimer - I'm a layman. I believe DFG% means how will your opponent's FG% was when you were guarding him. Please correct me if I'm wrong in my interpretations of terminology or improtant.

Looking at NBA.com, KCP's DFG% was 45.5 and THJR's was 40.7, overall.

And this is with KCP & THJR averaging a similar amount of shots attempted on them - 8.7 and 8.8, respectively.

----------------------------------------

I admit that I'm a "simple fan" who falls in love with my players - I'm not hiding from it.

I just believe the outrage is unwarranted.

This is true.

Hardaway is a player with limited upside who comes with a heavy price tag, so even though he is not an older player he doesn't present many positive variables long term. Considering the options at filling the wings positions by way of youth over the next couple of years being A) going through the draft B) Getting a young RFA with relatively moderate to high upside C) Trading for a young wing that team has given up on (i.e. Hezonja) signing Hardaway doesn't make sense to me because his potential is low imo and could undermine the Knicks draft position. I don't see Hardaway as the starting SG on a championship team, and him being here along with Melo potentially still being here puts this team in a position where they won't be able to get Porter Jr. or Bamba.

The advanced stats won't tell the whole story, seeing as how KCP is usually assigned tougher assignments on a more consistent basis than Hardaway and this season he was asked to do more on offense which had an impact on his defense.

It's a wild overpay for a guy who might not be as good as Dion Waiters... who got $20 million less.

4 years is also a really long time for a guy who still doesn't defend, and didn't even shoot 36% from 3 last season.

He also plays the same position as Courtney Lee AND Damyean Dotson, who are both better shooters (though obviously Dotson is a 2nd round rookie, so I don't pencil him in as a starter/player yet)

He also isn't a point guard, which means right now this team appears to be angling towards having Frank White start the season as the #1 pg.

The thing is, I'm Okay with the idea of the knicks betting on a young player with potential... I just don't really think Tim is that player.

Why does Melo need to be traded for this move to make sense? I'm missing something. I feel like this is either you love it or you hate it. THJR is nowhere close to Melo in terms of offense or defense. It's a bad contract regardless of what the Knicks do.

Because he serves no fukking purpose on a rebuilding roster and his style of play is not conducive to the development of younger players.

I look at it like this:

We essentially gave THJR to ATL to develop him for two years away from the dysfunction of NY that would have stunted him.

We brought back a better version of a prospect we drafted.

He might actually be a part of our future... Maybe not. If he continues to trend positively and blossoms into a legit player, than it's a win.

If he regresses and doesn't, it's a win because it translates into lucrative draft position and locks up salary so we don't sign veteran stars for the sake of win now.

------------------------------

On the flip, I remember brehs talking about offering KCP a deal which would have been around 17m per year.

KCP is 24 years old.

---------------------------------

With respect to the contract, what is the long term negative consequences of a team in rebuild and knowing that playoffs/chip is out of the conversation for at least 4 years?

--------------------------------

Now, in asking these questions, I'll admit that I made arguments in favor of the Noah contract and I own up to that. I know things could be bad with every decision.

I'm not seeing how this acquisition is anywhere near that considering Noah/Rose were win now and this is seems to be about securing a long term young piece, who, short term, isn't good enough to make us a treadmill team, but long term, could be part of a young nucleus.

4 straight years of not being competitive & not making the playoffs

But Ntilikina was drafted to be the point . And Baker is a backup guard/3rd stringer at best

Because it's time to move the fukk on.
