Signing THjr isn't so bad that it deserves all of this reaction imo. He's not good enough to stop the Knicks from tanking right now so I don't qualify this as a win now move, the Knicks are likely still one of the worst teams( if not THE worst) in the league with him on it and with Melo off of it. 18 mil is a lot and a slight overpay imo, but cats just a year younger than him are making 20+ mil just because of assumed potential, so it could be way worse. THjr is a hardworking guy who improved a lot in the last couple of years an he still hasn't likely hit his ceiling. Plus he's still young, so he fits in terms of building towards KP's prime. When you're a crappy, young team the players you want to sign are the rfa's of the league;guys still young enough to peak around the same time as the rest of your draft picks, and ain't no max players who are really worth the money coming here in the next two or three years, so who do we want to save this cap space for?

If you don't like THjr as a player and don't think he has a future with the team regardless, then I understand why you be vehemently against the move, but otherwise I don't see what's so catastrophically bad about the signing.

Lets be real here this isn't a HORRIBLE contract from the current view of things, he had a really good year from what I heard from Hawks fans and he's 25 so still a couple seasons away from his prime. 15-19 mil per is what I pegged he would get anyways. I just don't get why the need for him on a rebuilding team looking to tank this year for a really high lottery pick. I'm guessing the line of thinking is he'll contribute immediate numbers to a seriously depleted offense w/o Melo & Rose while also potentially panning out as a key guy when the team can *hopefully* get serious about winning again a couple years down the road

its wraps for him
Agreed...I hoped Noah could regain some of the old mojo under new colors but he's done. Hopefully he can impart some knowledge to Kristaps before he gets traded/waived

I look at it like this:

We essentially gave THJR to ATL to develop him for two years away from the dysfunction of NY that would have stunted him.

We brought back a better version of a prospect we drafted.

He might actually be a part of our future... Maybe not. If he continues to trend positively and blossoms into a legit player, than it's a win.

If he regresses and doesn't, it's a win because it translates into lucrative draft position and locks up salary so we don't sign veteran stars for the sake of win now.

------------------------------

On the flip, I remember brehs talking about offering KCP a deal which would have been around 17m per year.

KCP is 24 years old.

---------------------------------

With respect to the contract, what is the long term negative consequences of a team in rebuild and knowing that playoffs/chip is out of the conversation for at least 4 years?

--------------------------------

Now, in asking these questions, I'll admit that I made arguments in favor of the Noah contract and I own up to that. I know things could be bad with every decision.

I'm not seeing how this acquisition is anywhere near that considering Noah/Rose were win now and this is seems to be about securing a long term young piece, who, short term, isn't good enough to make us a treadmill team, but long term, could be part of a young nucleus.

Why does Melo need to be traded for this move to make sense? I'm missing something. I feel like this is either you love it or you hate it. THJR is nowhere close to Melo in terms of offense or defense. It's a bad contract regardless of what the Knicks do.

Too many shots need to be made between Melo, KP, and Timmy. for all three to be effective. ..... of those 3 KP would be the one likely to fall back ..... Then Frank needs to get reps in there as well as Willy...... Plus the Knicks still don't got a PG besides Baker
