A good time for a Snoop and Dre album was back in 2005/2006…

Dre and Snoop flopped for these reasons:

1. Their fan base is old now

2. Snoop been releasing flops for years now so who would wanna listen to him

3. The Kendrick/Drake, Jay/Puff issues, and the Papoose & Remy Ma debacle knocked this story down a page

I def thought they would do much better considering they have a condom with the artwork on it displayed on every tv show :francis:

Joe Cool is dead now…

You’re telling me that Snoop couldn’t find someone who could restore the feeling of the 1993 cover.

Having a condom knowing that Dre is DL fakkit is unintentionally funny to me.

Unless you Eminem or Kanye, old dudes just ain’t pushing units like that anymore

It was definitely promoted and they did promo. Not sure if the singles were on streaming playlists or radio or physicals out

I think given it didn’t crack top 10 it might be a flop. Wasn’t expecting 100k plus cause the single wasn’t a hit but that underperformed

Put this in perspective
Snoop dropped an album on the same day as Bossman Dlow who's the hottest street rapper right now and outsold him first week

:manny:

Yeah that’s another thing. Old dudes might not sell but neither are the new nikkas unless they single got legs

Only them debuted in the early 2010s rappers maintain a big base (Kendrick, Drake, Cole, Tyler, Niki, Future, Tyler ) and then Ye and Em

We gotta update how we view sales for legends who have been in the game for 30+ years. There is no world where Snoop or Dre did 100k+ in 2024. It’s not happening. And for all the talk about marketing…no marketing black rap legends do equals a (white) rock legend band being able to announce new music/tours and have every rock radio station in the country promote it. Meanwhile rap radio is entirely focused on new music and barely acknowledges anything 5 years old, much less 30.

Good numbers for Dre. Good numbers for Ice Cube. Good numbers for LL. Salute the legends and if you fukk with the music what else matters?

Personally, there needs to be a separate radio outlet for older artists. LL is not gonna get radio or algorithm play on the samw stations as a Sexy Redd listener.

With that said, Snoop is hella popular amongst all ages, and Dre is Dre so he's well known be it thru Em, or head phones etc. So these sales are not good at all.

Those exist and ironically LL owns one but it’s like radio on its own not gonna do it. Depends on something going viral on social media, used in reels, played in stores and radio etc

And also with older artists it’s actually they’re old stuff that people will stay tuned into her than new.

Seems like hiphop publications think its super underwhelming too.
I don't think Thecoli members realize how bad these numbers are considering the marketing this album had.

The music sucks. Back to the drawing board with these guys. Drop the music in the vault cause that’s what everyone wants.

I gave it a full spin and like it but it doesn’t have that vibe like GNx.

What other artists that debuted in the late 80s, early 90s are dropping new albums and putting up big numbers?

There aren't any. Marketing or better music doesn't make a difference.

If they tour the album it would be successful though, their fanbase skews older and older fans still buy concert tickets, they just don't listen to new music like the younger generation.

As a fan of both, I couldn't get excited for this and I still haven't even listened to it. Just added it to Apple Music but never feel like listening to it.

9th Wonder and multiple people on the Coli were talking about this when the Common/Pete Rock album came out. There needs to be a separate Grammy category for those artists, similar to how there's a "traditional pop" category (think...Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, etc) that's separate from the mainstream stuff. And the same with radio. There are throwback rap stations throughout the country but not enough. Not nearly as much as rock has. You can walk into a random breakfast diner throughout the country and hear Nirvana/Alice In Chains/Guns N Roses/Metallica/etc playing on some random classic rock station. You should be able to walk into a black restaurant and hear LL or Biggie or whoever.
