Our biggest issue IMO is that people with money have gotten away far too long with hiding their money and not paying taxes the same way the common man does. And of course the baby boomer gen and prior want to have their pensions and shyt but fail to realize it's Gen X and forward who are fitting the costs of it. And don't get me started on corporations who don't pay shyt.

Make everyone pay their fair share, kill all these fukin loopholes for everyone and let's ride.

This is basically what almost everyone (except the really rich and the odd libertarian) is saying in France and in Belgium.

Consensus isn't always right, especially in issues of collective ignorance like taxes and economics (and all the spurious causations drawn between trends of the two)

Africa is the future all we need is the educated, highly skilled diaspora to come back with the skills that they have acquired while all these Western institutions are crumbling. France and all these Europeans have had vested interests in the continent as a result companies such as Total, Unilever, Orange etc.. have been here making profits hands over fist therefore taxing the hell of their multinationals keep these countries sustainable. If the Chinese can settle here why not the diaspora, Chinese people who have no linkages to Africa whatsoever (whether colonial or familial) can come to Africa and set up shop and make money but blacks in the Diaspora whether it be one generation removed from the continent or many generations are too blinded of the negative images of a continent.

Thing is, one of the advantages of cheap education is that a lot of people have a basic understanding of how things work. Collective ignorance is not a fatality. And anyway the consensus also exists among most economists, problem is they're not really listened to.

That's fine and dandy but if you look at a few graphs you'll see why the diaspora isn't in a position to invest in Africa. Africa's rampant corruption and flimsy legal systems don't particularly make a great case for it either.

And nobody wants to pay their taxes, rich or poor... this is why the Democrats have gone out of their way to buy the poor and middle class with pointless tax breaks like the child credit and the mortgage interest deduction. Naturally though its easy to demonize people you don't like for doing what everyone does or wants to do.
basically this.
I dont care how liberal you are...you arent smiling come Tax time if you have to write a check to the Government...especially when you see them waste so much money.

The issue is poor people never feeling that pain because they see April 15 as free check day.

Also...people dont really understand how rich folks get out of taxes.
Most of it is because of their assets.

Small businesses/sole proprietors get hit the hardest when it comes to taxes...which is why you find a lot of that group voting Right.

Most of the Chinese small businesses in the continent are not exactly the elite class back in their home countries (not in a position to invest). Of course there is corruption (so what we should let it just prevent, that's what's wrong ppl are not willing to fight anything, I am going to assume you are American has your country been free of evil and corruption from the beginning of its history until now?) in the continent but it is also a continent of 54 countries. Not all have the same story of corruption most of the top ten fastest growing economies in the world are in Sub-Saharan Africa most of it is commodity based granted but the opportunities are endless why not take the risk? isn't what life is about? If you need a soft landing you can go to South Africa or Mauritius (the most "western" looking countries in Africa).

I'm not Chinese. I don't see the novelty in working myself to death or risking my life to make to make money the way I see them as doing. I would love to take on corruption in Africa but in reality I can't! I don't live there, connections, experience, and etc etc. Fix your countries if you want/expect investment. Lets just say I'm not worried about getting shaken down or my investments being seized or disappeared overnight. I would be hard pressed to go to South Africa for anything other than a three day vacation. I don't know anything about Mauritius (actually isn't that where they keep having acid attacks?).

I am assuming you have a western passport correct? Have you been to Africa? I am assuming No. If you have and worked yourself to death then it might not be an option for you. But if you have not quit the assumption about working yourself to death. If you find it so bad you can return back to your country of "origin" whenever you want to "Fix your countries if you want/expect investments" Africa is considered the last frontier market that's why investments have been coming in from multinationals to private equity firms so investment is not a problem. The message is probably not meant for people like you but rather those who are curious or have a vested interest in the development of the continent just like the Nigerians who are the most educated ethnic group in the US to come back and take a role in advancing their continent whether they have the connections or not. Anything worth doing is hard work.

The disadvantage of incomplete education/information is that people think they know how stuff works, but actually don't. The left has been screaming about taxes, but anytime I press anybody about it they turn out to not know what the fukk they are talking about.

Of all the problems poor people are facing, how is "taxes on the rich not being enough" at the top of the list over shyt like housing, education, healthcare etc.

Yes. I have been to Africa.Working yourself to death is right of passage but one I'm not endeavoring to complete it. Yes, failure is part of life and in theory I could return home(granted I'm financially capable and or alive). Individuals are very different than multi nationals I shouldn't have to explain or expand that and considering you're not from America I can only assume you don't believe corporations are people too, friend. I'm an entrepreneur, I have small businesses that I will expand overseas in my life. I don't only feel this way about Africa, I feel the same way about several countries in the Caribbean that I have a connection to and many other regions and countries around the world. There are countries even in the EU you couldn't pay me to live and work in. Cool, but if you're a Nigerian returning home or perhaps elsewhere you already have an incredible leg up wouldn't you say? If you could start a business in any country in Africa where would it be and how much would it require? Also what are foreseen issues that you would run into? If you're from Arica maybe you could share some positive and negative experiences(granted you're apart of this agenda that you feel others should undertake)? It's an admirable idea.
