What kind of job?

Nursing in a different specialty

I'm asking because I'm getting it done/trimmed the day before and I dont wanna ruin it by putting a scrunchie on it, because then I have to gel my edges and it's impossible to get it to look like she does it

I love the way it looks when I leave

Just saw what you added. Does it look “professional”? If so, do you! Also, you don’t have to do your edges. You can wear a headband or just leave them. I never do my edges. Then again, I work in a field that is more laid back. My friend is in the corporate world and had to build
Up her rep for a year before wearing faux locs in a neat bun

Friendly reminder if you’re trying to fight hyperpigmentation especially make sure you have your sunscreen on deck or it’s just gonna get worse.

What skincare concerns do you have?
dark circles under my eyes & a bit of hyperpigmentation on my forehead. acne scars too :mjcry:

but ive been doing some research. & it says to start off with

cleanser > moisturizer > sunscreen
as a solid foundation.

so i was just wondering how your skincare routine was like.

Yeah thats a good start! Especially the sunscreen.

Right now my current routine which is mainly aimed at getting rid of Hyperpigmentation and evening out my skintone.
AM
Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2%
Azaelic Acid
Moisturiser
Sunscreen

PM
Lactic Acid 10% (2-3x week)
Niacinamide
Tranexamic Acid
Moisturiser

I generally shop at The Ordinary which is pretty affordable.
Im no derm but If I was shopping there for your concerns I'd look into:

  • 10% Mandelic Acid - Gentle Chemical Exfoliant which can help acne, texture and pigmentation.
(Or you could try Lactic Acid, which is a bit more hydrating If you suffer from dry skin should give similar results)
  • Alpha Arbutin - Good for hyperpigmentation
  • Niacinamide - Can brighten and repair skin
With skincare I've found the best approach is keeping it simple.
I've tried loads of products and combinations over the years, downside is you never really find out what works and what doesn't because you've got a million products in your routine.

Could give those a try for a few months and see how you get on, dont exect overnight results for hyperpigmentation though.

Example of a routine using those items
AM:
Alpha Arbutin
Niacinamide
Moisturiser
SPF

PM:
Alpha Arbutin
Niacinamide
Mandelic Acid (2-3x Week)
Moisturiser

Dark circles unfortunately If drinking water and getitng enough isn't shifting then its likely genetic, and thus you can only really reduce appearance as opposed to completely get rid.

Ordinary do a product called "Caffeine Solution" which can help reduce appearance and puffyness.
Generally eye serums are hit and miss but that ones only like $5 so you could give it a shot.

What cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen are you using?

Ladies. I bought some African black soap but I'm a little scared to use it. People say it burns their skin or leaves their skin darker. Is that true? Any advice on how to use it?

Depends it can do or at least irritate your skin which could cause hyperpigmentation.
It can be quite drying for some.

I’ve used Black soap in the past specifically Dudu Osun for years.

Personally looking back I wouldn’t use it on my face, body was generally fine but looking back it dried the fukk out of face lol

Ive found a gentler approach with well formulated products with proven ingredients was better for my skin.
