In the immediate future it’s unlikely Ukraine will be able to push out Russia, however Putin is in his 70’s and with the toll the war is taking on Russias economy and the top down structure of command structure there is every bit the opportunity to not only end Russia but recover Ukrainian territories down the line.
Allowing Russia to rearm, refit, recover economically and build fortified defenses in the East from which to launch further attacks is not the wave.
I implore you to read some literature on WW2 in how appeasement of dictators works. Spoiler, it doesn’t.
Russian propaganda. Russia does not have an inexhaustible supply of men. Their attack pace and advances have declined dramatically as the war has gone on.
More importantly has Putin signified he is ready for a ceasefire?
So the plan is to keep going until Putin dies? Or hope he'll start caring so much about his economy that he will stop? And how long do you see this taking? How many Ukranian citizens die while they wait for Putin to die or start caring? I agree the economy is an issue, but he has to give a fukk first. And he still has oil, and a few countries (China, Iran, N Korea) that are willing to help him.
I am well versed on WWII. One of the time periods I find most interesting. You know the difference between then and now? The Allied countries were actually willing to FIGHT the dictator. Here they just want to send money. Troops on the ground? Nooooo. Imagine FDR or Truman telling England and France, "nah we not sending any troops to help you with Hitler, but here's some cash". How does WWII end if that was the case?
I'm not advocating that they try to appease Putin. But I have yet to hear a solid plan to continue this except keep sending Ukraine money, which I don't think USA is going to do much longer. And lingering in the background is the fact that Russia has nukes. Maybe Putin decides to drop a small one on Kyiv. Wouldn't make a lot of sense to do that when your goal is to actually occupy the area later but this dude is a thug and a nut. So who knows.
After the meeting with Russia, Trump is approaching Zelensky with a "deal" and pressuring him to do that. So I imagine Putin is willing to do something. Like you said his economy and military are suffering. But the question is what the terms are. I'm sure they are ridiculously one-sided but what are they?
