Russia has attacked its eastern neighbours countless times through history. Just like they did in 1939. European countries in general have always fought against each other. Yet, at one point everybody decided that the best way forward was to forget about the past and work together. Russia and Russians didn't want that. Russia is the one being overly aggressive, constantly threatening other countries, openly supporting war crimes etc. Let's not forget that there would be no need for NATO, if Russia wouldn't be a totalitarian autistic country. As a matter of fact, the importance of NATO was being questioned before the war. Now Finland and Sweden joined up....

What does Russia's relations with it's eastern neighbors have anything to do with its relations with its western neighbors. Russia has fought off multiple brutal invasions from France, Germany, and the Ottomans(modern day Turkey). I wouldn't want a military alliance made up of my historical rivals right on my most important and hard to defend border either.

I meant Western neighbours. Russia is historically not some poor victim. They have done their fair share of invading. And it doesn't matter what Russia wants. They are not special. Each country can decide if they want to join NATO or not. Nothing to do with Russia.
