I mean if you have had to historically fight off devastating invasions from your western neighbors who to this day really don't fukk with you, you wouldn't want a military alliance made up of those countries on your borders either.

Americans don't really understand this because the last time foreign soldiers touched our soil it was in such a remote part of our country people forget it happened and think it was 1812 and not 1942. Lol

Russia has attacked its western neighbours countless times through history. Just like they did in 1939. European countries in general have always fought against each other. Yet, at one point everybody decided that the best way forward was to forget about the past and work together. Russia and Russians didn't want that. Russia is the one being overly aggressive, constantly threatening other countries, openly supporting war crimes etc. Let's not forget that there would be no need for NATO, if Russia wouldn't be a totalitarian autistic country. As a matter of fact, the importance of NATO was being questioned before the war. Now Finland and Sweden joined up....
