Damn that injury, if any of y’all seen him play then you know his trajectory was definitely to the HOF. He had to retire before he was 30!

Edit: I see some light TO shade in here son has over 15,000 yards and 156 touchdowns he was definite candidate

He went tow toe to toe with Jerry Rice with a worse QB and had better stats multiple years. Of course he deserves it.
Sterling wasn't very media friendly during his time and didn't have any rings. Those are the reasons he won't ever make the Hall.

Plus "they" want that Brothers in the Hall together thing to go to the Mannings.

The selection committee is just as biased as the owners when it comes to who gets in and who doesn't. If you aren't Mount Rushmore and ain't media friendly expect to wait longer than you should.
This 100%.

I was in 3rd grade when Sterling got hurt (1994). Cowboys were my squad but even I knew back then that he was DAT DUDE. Breh was legit. I also vaguely remember the idea that he wasn't the most media/fan friendly. Shannon was always better at that than Sterling. He could get in but they're gonna make him wait. Plus they do want the Mannings to get the brother-brother distinction first. NFL always wants the white boys to get first dibs...play to the demographics. "We got a bunch of nigras but the white man runs pigskin"

but that's why context matters. and you have to judge eras by eras, not cross eras IMO.

Since the game is so different and passing numbers have exploded, I tend to look at All-Pros and where they were ranked that season.

7 seasons, 5 Pro-Bowl, 3 first team All-Pro, 3x leading NFL in receptions (4 years in top 5), 1x leading NFL in receiving yards (4 years in top 5), 2x leading NFL in receiving TDs (4 years in top 5).

Just depends on how much you value longevity. He was obviously one of the top WRs when he played.

Terrell Davis & Tony Boselli both made the HOF despite lacking longevity. Boselli actually has the same number of Pro Bowls and 1st team All Pros as Sterling.

I doubt Terrell would be in if it weren’t for his postseason achievements. He put up video game numbers in the postseason.

8 games (7-1 record), 1,140 rushing yards on 5.6 YPC, 12 rushing TDs,

I’d rather a guy who was top 3 for 5 years get in over dudes who were really good for ten.

There are players who were never the best or even second best at their positions that are in the hall

No. Longevity matters

Is there a player that led the league in receptions for three straight seasons that's not in? How many THREE TIME first team all pros are not in? And, it's not like he was competing with average players. He had Jerry Rice going at the same time.

Prime and peak are FAR more important than longevity when it comes to the HOF, or at least it should be.

That's a weak cop-out answer.

Ok say he came back from injury and played 5 more seasons but was mediocre. Would he still be a hofer to u?

I edited my post as I don't think it was a cop out answer, but I just disagree.

I do believe he would be. If you're top two at you position for 3+ years, that is HOF material to me, especially when that position has a lot of competition in terms of the number of players.
