I don’t think FX gets enough respect for the consistent heat they’ve put out over the years.
FX been on my Radar since they came out with Legion :wow:

every modern samurai movie or show seems to have a european subplot
If you're interested in Japanese perspective from around this time period read the novel Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa, it's about fictionalized life of the greatest samurai in Japanese history. So while Shogun is basically a political novel, Musashi is about the way of the samurai.

Musashi takes place after the Battle of Sekigahara, so it will spoil what happens in Shogun for you. Yoshikawa also has another novel Taiko (about Toyotomi Hideyoshi) that takes place time wise before Shogun (Clavell).

There are three Musashi movies from 1950s, great scores on iMDB and RT but it is Japanese cinema from 1950s so not sure how they hold up, if you don't want to read the novel.
