I can't speak for cac mentality outside the USA but poverty explains some of that too.

We've got numerous guns in our house, my husband just bought me a new gun for my bday.
sitting where I am right now if I had an abusive spouse or stranger attack me I would be way fukk ed up
long before I could get to the closest gun in the house though.

having a gun isn't necessarily gonna save ya unfortunately.
And I say that living in Texas where I'm very confident that the laws are In my favor
to shoot someone in self defense.
