Obviously I disagree with the idea of a blaxploitation icon not being THAT guy-- the type to call the newer generation soft. Of course he is, this is a guy that made traffic stop as he j walked across the street. How you figure 'he's a bad motha-- SHUT YO MOUTH!' would be cool with weirdos?

Yeah see I don’t think that’s shaft. The bad mother fukker part is shaft. Most definitely. But shaft isn’t the guy to shyt on the new guys cause that makes him look like an old ass man yelling from his porch. He can still be cool and tough and the same guy without feeling old.

He isn't a new guy. He's soft and a new guy.

You're absolutely wrong on this issue and I don't have to go further than 2000 Shaft. Again, we're talking about Jackson's portrayal of the character, you're trying to play semantics. A guy who punked whites and latinos throughout the entire 2000 film is all of a sudden super PC?

:mjlol: Stop it.

That’s not super PC to not comment on a change in generation tho. You let the shyt be as is and you adapt

:mjlol: Bruh, he did everything in Shaft (2000) except call every white person honkey and every latinx sp!c. Jackson's Shaft most definitely would call his son and the new generation soft. That's facts and you know it. It's ok if you were personally bothered by it, but you're using a separate argument to win different debate.

The idea of Shaft and Sam Jackson's version of the character (who's the originals nephew) are two different things. You're using the Uncle and what he represented as an icon in his era, and then using that to say how the nephew should operate. That's wrong.

:mjlol: If we're basing the new movie off of Sam Jackson's Shaft, who isn't the original Shaft anyway, then he behaved exactly as you expected him to.

Homie I’m not personally bothered by it. I’m just looking at it purely as a film and what I think the best way for the character would. E going forward. And what I think Shaft should be in 2019. That’s all. So yeah, to me, that’s a big miss. If you liked it, you liked it. More power to you :manny:

Am I the only who noticed that Shaft gets lighter with each generation? :russ: :mjlol:

B+ movie. :ehh:
Big reason I ain't go see this yet is the new Shaft ain't dark enough :hhh: and he look too young. I hope they reboot it and get a darker, more mature looking Shaft and do the iconic Shaft justice next time.

Purely as a film Sam Jackson portrayed the character true to how he portrayed it in 2000. That's it and that's all.

If you want to now argue the idea of Shaft in 2019, after not having an issue with the exact same portrayal of the character in 2000, the only miss is in your own comprehension.

And I didn't just like it, the majority liked it. You're in the minority.

That’s cool. Also don’t care if I’m in the minority or majority. Not that serious to me lol. I’m glad people like it. Like I said, I’m glad you enjoyed it and had a good time with it. My issues with it shouldn’t take away your enjoyment. If you feel I’m wrong that’s fine. We disagree. Is what it is

Just scoped it out earlier. Wasn't as bad as some of the reviews I've seen about it said it was. Was actually pretty funny. Could never watch a solo movie with just the youngin' himself tho. Sam would have to be involved in some form or fashion.

shyt was dope. Me and my girl dipped in this movie after we saw John Wick 3. Laughed non-stop. Jessie T killed it. Sam did too but I give Jessie props cuz I always felt he was the weak link on survivors remorse. The Kapoeria (sp?) fight scene? :russ: Regina definitely had the fatty on display :wow:

It was a comedy strictly entertaining escapism. I was calling everything that set up the plot before it happened, so anybody looking for a deep story or some social commentary is in the wrong theater. You want to know what's going on in society? Go outside.
I knew Karim was gonna die before he even got that text. Him and JJ were having a mushy convo I told my girl "oh he's dead". Dead giveaway early in a movie when 2 ppl are gushing over how they've always been friends and are there for each other. I knew the BWB guys had something to do with it as soon as the whiteboy leader entered the frame. He just had that "a$$hole" look.

Good flick, but nah Jessie can't hold this flick down in a solo without Sam.
