The Land That Time Forgot
"New Line’s Shaft — what happened here? Such a cool, fun trailer that riffed on the ridiculous notion of three Shafts coming together. But no one showed up, with a $8.3M take. Those who did gave it an A CinemaScore and 4 Stars on PostTrak. This film was riding high on a $20M-$22M tracking number four weeks ago, in the range of the $21.7M that the 2000 Samuel L. Jackson version opened to (he’s even in this movie!). Many assumed African American audiences would over-index the opening of this movie, and they didn’t, even though they repped 44% of last night’s audience to 35% Caucasian, 11% Hispanic and 7% Asian."

Great movie, best out of the 4 flicks I've seen in the last week by far.(Godzilla, Men in black INT, Dead never die)

Might be my favorite movie so far this year with John Wick, if you liked the last one you'll love this. I saw it with a mixed audience and everybody was cracking up, black white asian, young and old.

There's a very good chance i go see it again before the week is over w a different group. Word of mouth is going to carry this flick, watch.

i guess "the critics" didnt enjoy the politically incorrect dialogue and actions in this movie like i did. lames :beli:

And they were wrong. It's got a 94% verified audience score and got a A cinema score. The audiences that saw the film loved it. Critics can sometimes overthink movies and this movie is the perfect example. All Sam's "Gay" jokes were tongue and cheek at best and very tame. But critics were acting like it was the end of the Universe that "Shaft" wasn't "Politically Correct"? LOL. Anyways Critics aren't the end all be all. I had a good time, The movie was Fire guys. All that "blah Blah he said something Misogynistic", LOL. That was the point of the story. It was a clash of generations. Baby Boomers V The Millennials. I also thought Jessie did much better in this than I expected outside of that Dinner scene, that was a little cheesy, lol. Sam killed it though, the jokes were crazy and the crowd was eating it up. The action and comedy actually went good. The final battle was good too.

They kept the plot basic, again Shaft solving the case his way and not by the book. But the interactions with him and Jessie really made the movie. As for the Box Office, "Shaft" has never been a "Blockbuster" franchise. It was a Blaxpolotation era film that changed the game. Sam's version did better back in 2000 but that wasn't the norm for the franchise. It got lost in the shuffle this weekend but as you see, everything this Summer is under performing outside of Big Willie and Neo Wick. I think Fall would of been a better release date for it but they dropped this month because it's the 19th Anniversary of Sam's 2000's film. I think it will do well on streaming/home video. I am so Happy I chose "Shaft 5" over that weak MIB reboot (Stop playing with Will's franchises, Newsflash, It's Doesn't work without Will). I also liked the music they selected in the story, it was a nice trip down memory lane for me. It was mixture of Old School Classic R&B and modern day Hip Hop Tracks from the 90's. I will NEVER get tired of Issac's theme. That shyt is just too much. I came home and had to bump that original soundtrack.

IGN's review took the angle that making Shaft that way actually made him less cool and effectively turned the movie, and him, into a "back in my day" type and that's never who Shaft has been. Which I 1000% agree with. Making Shaft the old man on the porch is the antithesis of the character. Shaft shouldn't be homophobic masculinity because he's never been that. Ever. He's always been the coolest cat around and doesn't care how you're living your life as long as you're living righteous and not fukking anyone up

The reviewer also said the movie doesn't tackle any social issues, which he also felt was a cardinal sin for a Shaft movie. Also agreed with that. To have a Shaft movie in 2019 not deal with race or any social issue in any way isn't a good look

You're just a weirdo type nikka so of course shyt is going to rub you the wrong way.

I loved the depiction of a black male that isn't a sucka.

Not emotional at all. Just calling it like I see it. So if you want to actually talk movies let’s talk movies. You want to throw insults back and forth from a computer or phone or whatever you’re on? I’m good.

So again we can talk like men or do whatever it is you think you’re doing now. Your call.

Obviously I disagree with the idea of a blaxploitation icon not being THAT guy-- the type to call the newer generation soft. Of course he is, this is a guy that made traffic stop as he j walked across the street. How you figure 'he's a bad motha-- SHUT YO MOUTH!' would be cool with weirdos?
