Serious Question: What exactly does Lebron do BETTER right now than Penny Hardaway did offensively?

No Penny still improved on the skills he has, he just didn't need that "if he had a i.e. Post Game, left hand, I.Q ect" Penny had all that in spades and improved upon them. By being a finished product, he could do it all. at high level.

Didn't LeBron come out of high school averaging 20 without this so called arsenal, surprised this thread lasted this long. I love Penny but he wouldn't even tell you that he's more skilled than Bron

The thing about lebrons offensive game and all his success, efficiency and consistency. It only works when you're lebron james.

You can't teach 6-8 260lbs

And you can't give someone the experience or bball iq he's aquired over the years or the perfect group of teammates to work with like lebron always seems to have lately.

If you wanted to teach a session on post moves for example or other offensive maneuvers, etc. for a 6'7-6'8 player playing the SG-Sf position it would be much better to teach using Penny highlights or his game as a blueprint.

Penny's skills are just that more apparent and noticeable.

And Penny is a better ball handler. I see no one is denying that.

I'm not saying Penny is better than lebron. I'm saying the two players are very comparable. If it makes Lebron less special to some of you, sorry.

Another note: let's not act like if hardens game was efficient, fans would love him more or like his style of play. Nobody would say he's better than curry. He'd still only have like 3 moves to his game.

Whether you like to admit it, how you score is Important in the NBA and basketball especially for fans.

Kobes game isn't nearly as efficient as lebron but nobody cares because it looks nice. They still call him the goat.

Just imagine if Lebrons post game was as polished as Pennys.

Lebrons game being simple and basic is more of a criticism than a compliment because it shows what he lacks and where he has room for improvement.

Lebron can rely on being smarter than most but I think some of you are inflating his "basketball genius" cause when a good defender with good size gets on him like khawi or Boris Diaw, he all of a sudden can't figure out how to score like he usually does.

That's where smarts or iq goes out the door and raw skills take over.

I loved Penny. I always love guys with that varied skill set. He was evolutionary Magic Johnson to me. I thought he and Shaq would win championships together and I wanted to see it happen.

But he wasn't even close to as good as Lebron. He just so rarely opposed his will on a game...

He could be a 30-point scorer, but rarely scored 30+ points, even in the playoffs when rotations tighten up and teams rely on their stars more. He was a gifted passer, but rarely had one of those 12-assist games - more like he had a highlight-reel assist here and there rather than picking the other team apart play after play. He was a solid and at times even lockdown defender, but never the elite, "he might just take over this game with his defense" level. He couldn't impose his will on a game with rebounding, like Lebron and even Magic did from time to time. He could shoot the ball, but was never that threatening of a 3pt shooter when he still had his athleticism...

It was like Penny had all the tools, but we were still waiting for him to really grow into them when the injuries came.

Penny might have been every bit as good as Lebron if he had gotten stronger, avoided the injuries, and began to oppose his will on games when his team needed it.

Exactly. Why can't some of you understand the comparison. Lebrons just a bigger, smarter more aggressive Penny. He's basically what Penny could've been, But he's still less skilled right now than Penny was in his early 20s

All I'm saying is penny was just as skilled if not more.

I watched rookie AND prime penny, and this thread is a fukking joke.

LeBron is fundamentally better than penny at every level. Better shooter, better passer, better ball handler. Even though he's been asked to be the number one passer AND scorer on all of his teams, as well as defender.

Penny's skillset stood out, because of his size and his quickness. There had not been a lot of players like him. LeBron is just a much better version of that player.

Every year or two, somebody discovers Anfernee Hardaway on this board, and we see a thread like this.... which is why the classic "Did you know Penny could dunk without even jumping" thread was made.

You sound brand new. Which is fine, because you're probably 18.

They're not comparable. Lebron is pretty much better in most major categories and he's a lot better.

And who cares about looking nice? Points don't more if you look nice doing it. Duncan is better in the post than Cousins or Bosh but Bosh and Cousin will still take and make crazier shots or look smoother in the post with crazy fadeaways and such.

You can't separate Lebron's skill from his body or his brain. It's not fair to him or his abilities. Again, Shaq vs. Brooke Lopez.

Lebron's so naturally talented that he puts up numbers that Penny could only dream of and he's been doing since he was 20. Is it fair? No but that just goes to show that even a raw Lebron is plain better than 99% of the NBA players off of sheer IQ and talent alone.

I see a lot of you dudes are prisoners of the moment and only got to see Penny on Youtube. Popovich in the last 2 NBA Champ games dared Lebron to shoot. Penny Day One, Year One Skill level, shyts on Year 8 Lebron Skill level period. And You dudes talking about Passing have definitely didn't see Penny passing game.

Please tell me how that worked out for the spurs in game 7

Penny was my favorite growing up, could have been an all-time great if not for injuries.

But I'll say Grant Hill is more of what LeBron is than Penny was

This is like the Shaq vs Hakeem argument. Skill vs physical dominance.

Sure, Penny was more skilled. But Lebron is better and more dominant.
