If you say so. I think a child that goes to a top tier school but lives in an authoritarian environment will prosper before the child the lives in abject poverty but comes home to a authoritative environment. It's why the second usually makes it in the news and is celebrated.

My parents aren't even from the US, but from the islands. Most kids I know of that are 1st generation kids relate to this more or less.

And you're buying into a White agenda since most of them don't even employ a authoritative parenting style.

One of the greatest scientists of the 20th century was Enrico Fermi.

Fermi taught himself physics/math by reading physics books and doing science experiments with his older brother. He wasn't rich and had few resources. In fact, some of history's greatest thinkers were largely self-taught. I can name others if you so desire.

At this point, it seems as if you're deliberately deceiving others. One thing that I warn young blacks is that the worst racists will be nice & friendly, yet simultaneously encourage you to be self-destructive through deception. They will want you to steal, drop out of school, do drugs, go on welfare, have illegitimate children, act crazy in public--because as long as you continue acting that way, it reinforces negative stereotypes about blacks.

first of all, I don't think this is universally true.

HOWEVER speaking with both 1st generation kids of parents literally from west africa and the islands, they relate to this article. I think its that we're not really allowed to try and experiment and engage with our parents with logic etc. Maybe our parents are working too hard to take that time to develop us in a way that might aid our development. Plus imagine moving to another country and basically getting it POPPING. That shyt is gonna rub off on your kids to some degree.

my folks are from the islands...I honestly think its the culture and it IS somewhat different from how black americans do things. Its impressed upon you young to "do something" and to push hard, but even still, that strict authoritarian view hurts a lot of kids who never live up to it, even if they have those goals. Even still tho

I knew people who were scared to even talk to their teachers or other adults and taught to ALWAYS fall in line.

That's a resource issue, not a parenting one. School quality is a resource issue. There are tons of students that prosper in spite of their parents due to great educators. You don't get great educators unless you have funding or very rarely the teacher has that much intrinsic motivation and empathy.
