My only fear is that the two characters’ stories are going to be too similar to each other. Kinda hoping for like a Claire A/Leon B scenario thing from the original RE2 where you guys cross paths but you have to play as both characters to get the full story.

From what Ive been reading thats exactly whats going down. And apparently you will eventually be able to have the other playable character in your party as your support for your main character.

Not sure how this isn't a JRPG?

is it because you haven't walked around a open world?

No. JRPG can be also a linear story too.

A JRPG is a Japanese Role-Playing Game.

These typically include the following:

  1. A linear story with sidequests or an open world with sidequests

  2. Turn based combat or action combat

  3. A party system where party members can be swapped out

  4. An individual progression system that allows party members to be customized with their weapons/upgrade weapons, outfits/upgrade outfits

  5. Level grinding, often caused by party members leveling unevenly due to swapping out, have hidden/secret powers

  6. Shopping for items, weapons, outfits, magic materias, etc
  7. Learning new abilities, learning from other's abilities
  8. Random battles

  9. Teenage protagonists fighting an ultimate evil to save the world

  10. "Anime" style story tropes, character tropes, and tone.
There are lots of other things I'm forgetting or under-explaining.

For me it needs to have some sense of scale and exploration, going from level to level and fighting a room of mobs, falls squarely into action game, with rpg elements.

Also, i feel like there needs to be some menu based decision making. It’s why I feel comfortable calling FF7 Remake a JRPG, and bloodborne an action game, with rpg elements
