if the cable bundle ceases to exist, theres nowhere near enough money to go around where paying 100 mil for a single nfl reg season game to stream it on amazon or whatever is feasible. the money will fall off a cliff. will some be there to be made? sure. nfl making 2 billion for monday night football alone? nope. not even close. espn, and the leagues tv contracts as a whole, are where they are at because folks like my mom who never watches a second of sports subsidizes it. once that leg falls off, it will be a huge ripple effect
has any SEC guys been fired? #StayWoke
My first guess would be Fox, especially since they are trying with their own version of ESPN. But it hasn't been working for them.Who would want to buy it?
What would fox gain? terrible contracts that if ESPN went under they might be able to get at a cheaper price? Redundent infrastructure they already have built? My first guess would be Fox, especially since they are trying with their own version of ESPN. But it hasn't been working for them.
who?
I'm almost 34. When people of my generation get to be 50+ cable and satellite bundles will be gone entirely. My generation is filled with cord cutters and cord nevers. cable companies will simply transition to selling internet and make people take data caps. I don't know what satellite companies do. Maybe go the Directv Now approach. ESPN simply can't sustain its apparatus with only the people watching it paying for it unless they drop a shyt ton.Cable and Satellite are adapting. ESPN and stations tied down like them are just going to be casualties if they can't make it.
No-Sports TV? Viacom, AMC, Discovery Said Eyeing Web Bundle
Change is coming
I actually think they'll make just as much money (or more) going to streaming platforms....the amount of data amazon (prime), google (youtube), and Facebook have on their users is immense. The advertising dollars spent there will have such a higher ROI, companies would love this - stop wasting time advertising to people who don't care. When I watch the nfl now, I see companies using sexy women to sell shyt i don't care about - trucks, beer, power tools, cheeseburgers, wranglers . This current model can't account for the female viewer or vegan or new parent watching, yet if I'm a prime member and watch on amazon - they know damn near everything i buy, browse, add to wish lists, etc. That tailored ad experience is better for customers and advertisers. The value of that alone will help keep the cost of rights inflated. Let alone any subscription fee they might charge for access to gamesif the cable bundle ceases to exist, theres nowhere near enough money to go around where paying 100 mil for a single nfl reg season game to stream it on amazon or whatever is feasible. the money will fall off a cliff. will some be there to be made? sure. nfl making 2 billion for monday night football alone? nope. not even close. espn, and the leagues tv contracts as a whole, are where they are at because folks like my mom who never watches a second of sports subsidizes it. once that leg falls off, it will be a huge ripple effect
They let Hannah Storm go
I'm 33 I"m not cutting the cord, and most of the people my age cutting the cord, aren't cutting it for real, they getting passwords from HBO and cable providers from their parents to subsidize their hulu or netflix membership.I'm almost 34. They really need to stop broadcasting games and do their PTI and Around the Horn type shows online in bite-sized chunks where people can stream them in a more YouTube channel style. Back when I watched those shows I used to hate sitting through all the crap like Baseball and Hockey to get to Football and Basketball. Same with Sportscenter. I should be able to go to their website and pull up the game I wanna watch highlights and get thoughts from their personalities on.
