Hold on. Shannon Sharpe got an extension? If I was Ryan I would be pissed too. I get it Shannon's brand is high. But Ryan has put in work and could talk NBA if given the opportunity. Shannon is popular because of his non sports talk. I was watching Jason Whitlock talk about him. He said Ryan Clark isn't likeable and how Shannon has comedic talent. that's he isn't authentic like Shaq, Kenny and Charles. Now i do think that Ryan has versatility to talk other sports and entertainment as he has shown in the pivot. When I look at Ryan I think he should follow the blueprints of guys like Nate Burleson and Michael Strahan. National tv, catering to a worldwide audience. Don't look at guys like Shannon Sharpe and Pat Mcafee. Those guys have built a cult following. So no matter where Pat and Shannon and probably even Stephen a. those guys can go to any network and platform and command a high salary.
Didn't read the rest after that but as regards Shannon being popular due to his non-sports talk is wrong. He has a broader reach due to his non-sports talk but he is one of the most beloved football analysts. People do not watch ESPN to hear him talk about Megan the stallion or beef with comedians.

Ryan Clark messed up. $2 million is an insult. If Mina kimes makes 1.5 and Shannon makes 10 million. Ryan should be getting 5 to 6 million. Shannon sharpe does one show and he's barely in the studio.

Where did it says ESPN pays Shannon 10 million?

That 2 million seems low. Like I know he's not Stephen A, but he puts in lots of work and is a major asset. I wonder how much ESPN is paying Shannon?

And Stephen A's contract is up at the end of this year, and he's basically said he wants ROMO money.

Dudes have y'all not been seeing how Disney is chopping heads off left & right?

Hell, damn near every media company is chopping heads off.

Dudes & dudettes are just lucky to have a fukkin job if they're not Stephen A., Skip Bayless, Shannon Sharpe, or Pat McAfee.

People don't realize, you want to make good money but you don't want to be making so much money that Disney can look at the books and say we can save money by cutting this guy.

Even Stephen A Smith took a paycut during the pandemic.

At the end of the day tho, I've had multiple meetings with ESPN and one thing I can tell you is that even in the midst of layoffs, they're still hiring people. Disney is a HUGE company so even if they eliminate 7,000 jobs, they are still hiring people as well so if you got it, you got it.

Ryan Clark clearly has a lot to offer and is a star in this business. He's in the great position of having stuff outside of ESPN which is a huge win.

And Greenberg earns $6.5M

RC is worth at least double whatever Greenberg is worth

My main question though, is he the draw on any of the shows he does or an air time filler. Shannon and Stephen A IMO have shown themselves to be draws. Is anybody tuning into any show and stopping if they see Ryan Clark on screen? Plus I think outside of the MMA show he's one of the main hosts so it doesn't shock me if he ain't making crazy money. Plus when did 2 million become something to sneeze at?

When it's below the market rate of your contemporaries.

It’s not about your worth, it’s what you’re able to negotiate. For whatever reason, they love Greeny and would never let him become a FA like they did with Clark.

:mjpls: yes, whatever reason
They view him as the "safe" option eventhough they have other talent on the roster that can essentially do some of the same things that he can. If anything, he's more of a legacy talent at this point and probably the closest thing they have to a journalist and interviewer just like the other morning show has in the same building.

He’s one of the talents that Norby is a big supporter of from what I gather and believe. If you have backing from a big wig like him, you are golden at ESPN.

This is correct. He works as a filler, and he's excellent at what he does. However, no one is tuning in to see Ryan Clark as the face or a show. They tune in to see Shannon, SAS, Skip, MacAfee, and some others.

Huge difference.
