Going to check Best Buy today. Before CPSC became involved, they were supposed to receive the new phones last Friday or Saturday (and in fact had a truck allegedly delivering some that Friday). Hoping that they just had them sitting in the back and, now that they've been approved, they can distribute :manny:

This is an example of how a creditable, first-class company is supposed to respond, unlike Apple who never accepts any accountability & just blames the consumer for any issues that may arise with their defective products.

:mjlol:
Samsung totally mishandled this situation. That's why over the weeks you could get 6 different Note owners who bought their device at 6 different places and they'd give you 6 different stories about if they could or couldn't get loaners and the vast majority would probably still be using the phone. Had Samsung gone to the CPSC first we'd likely have already had replacement phones on the original timetable. The Note7 Reddit was a clear example of that.

Whether you feel Samsung "mishandled" the Note 7 recall is irrelevant. The fact that Samsung was willing to go through great lengths to resolve the issue & assure consumers while incentivizing their customers instead of blaming owners of malfeasance & washing their hands of the matter is ultimately what matters in the end.

A Photo of a Burn From a Flaming iPod

"By now have probably heard a story or two about flaming iPods. After a lengthy investigation, a Seattle TV station managed to score documents from the Consumer Product Safety Commission that shed light on how common this problem really is.

It took more than 7-months for KIRO 7 Consumer Investigator Amy Clancy to get her hands on documents concerning Apple's iPods from the Consumer Product Safety Commission because Apple's lawyers filed exemption after exemption. In the end, the CPSC released more than 800 pages which reveal, for the very first time, a comprehensive look that shows, on a number of occasions, iPods have suddenly burst into flames, started to smoke, and even burned their owners.

Within that 800 pages of information, 15 minor burn and fire related incidents reported by iPod owners are discussed. KIRO goes on to describe several of these incidents and how Apple knew that there were defective batteries out there, yet did nothing about it. With over 170 million iPods in circulation, it's not surprising that Apple is trying to keep things quiet. A recall would come at a huge expense—and with that amount of product on the shelves, there is bound to be a few anomalies here and there. The CPSC agrees with this point, claiming that there are not enough cases thus far to warrant any further action."

Funny how these incidents were glossed over by the CPSC & they were unwilling to get involved & drop the hammer on Apple. :sas1:

Girl, 11, offered refund by Apple for exploding iPod... but only if she agreed not to tell anyone

"Computer giant Apple tried to silence a family after a young girl's iPod exploded and they sought a refund.
The firm told Ken Stanborough it would only return his money if he promised not to speak about the settlement, and threatened legal action if he did.
But he refused, saying he found their letter 'very disturbing'.

The incident, which has left the family £162 out of pocket, comes after it emerged that Apple had allegedly tried to do the same to customers in the U.S.
Mr Stanborough, 47, complained after he dropped his 11-year-old daughter Ellie's iPod Touch because it was overheating.
'It made a hissing noise,' he said. 'I could feel it getting hotter in my hand and I thought I could see vapour.'
He threw the music player out of his back door and 'within 30 seconds there was a pop, a big puff of smoke and it went 10ft in the air'.

After contacting Apple and Argos, where he bought the device, Mr Stanborough managed to speak to an Apple executive.
He then received a letter in which the company denied liability but said it would offer a refund if the family agreed to 'keep the terms and existence of this settlement agreement completely confidential'.

It added that any breach of confidentiality 'may result in Apple seeking injunctive relief, damages and legal costs against the defaulting persons or parties'.

Mr Stanborough, a self-employed security worker from Liverpool, said: 'They're putting a restriction on myself, my daughter and Ellie's mum, not to say anything to anyone,' he said.
'If we inadvertently did say anything, no matter what, they could take litigation against us. I thought that was absolutely appalling.
'We didn't ask for compensation, we just asked for our money back.'

An Apple spokesman said that the company could not comment because it had not looked at the Stanboroughs' iPod. Argos also refused to comment.

The Trading Standards Institute said it did not know whether such letters were standard across the industry.
But it added it could understand that Apple would want to protect its reputation by trying to reach a confidential settlement.
Last week, it emerged that Apple tried to hush up several similar cases of exploding iPods in the U.S.
Documents obtained from the Consumer Product Safety Commission suggested that the iPods' lithium ion batteries could be the source of the problem. :sas2:

In 2006, Apple and Dell recalled millions of lithium ion batteries because of overheating problems in laptop computers.

Last year the Japanese government warned iPod Nanos presented a potential fire risk, saying there had been 14 cases in the country where the players had caught fire and two people had suffered minor burns.

And in March, a mother in Ohio began court proceedings against Apple after her son's iPod Touch allegedly exploded in his pocket, burning his leg."

The battery on my S4 would get hot, then it eventually got fat. Bought a replacement and the phone just got worse from there.
