Possibly. But it's quite possible it will just happen automatically, as a natural consequence of creating more complex neural networks that just happen to figure out how to think as an emergent property all on their own.

I guess it could happen by accident but I’m not sure if I would want something like that to happen by accident cause then we may not understand it, which is a whole nother dilemma if we don’t understand how it learned to think

And most people can't even worship God without corrupting it in some way. Instead of it being about love and acceptance we've corrupted spirituality with dogma and intolerance.

Also I don't want A.I. to be a God. Even though it may eventually have what we might call God like powers. I look at it was a co-partner that'll ultimately make us more intelligent and understand the world better.

Its the next stage in our evolution as a species and we should embrace it.

I think taking humans out of the equation when it comes to some things is good. Lets face it. Humans kind of suck when it comes to running a stable and healthy civilization for ourselves and the planet. We need a higher intelligence to solve some the issues we face, whether its climate change, disease or poverty. The best outcome with A.I. is that it could eliminate the need for most human labor, while simultaneously providing abundance for everyone the planet. We'll have to figure out new ways of being and it will inevitably cause some problems. Especially for those who've come to identify with their work/profession.

I don't think extinction is something to worry about if we align A.I. successfully. And even without A.I. we're headed for collapse due to climate change anyway. IMO A.I. is one best shots we have to avert human extinction and collapse.
