Correct, The hadith is what is part of the sunnah (the ways of their so called prophet). It's graded based on authentic to weak narrations.
But it's impossible to follow Islam based on Quran alone.
The shahada, the number of times to pray, the abolition of mutt'ah, etc....are NOT in the Quran. They have to use the hadith and so they are stuck with it.
