The movie unfortunately fell apart in the 3rd act.

It felt like 15-20 minutes were cut along with the actual last 20 minutes being re-edited for a rushed ending.

Too many things happened.

And this was NOT a real horror movie or a real vampire movie.

But I may owe Mr Coogler an apology for the Black Panther franchise.

Looking more like the bullshyt decisions came from DISNEY with them using him as the face.

I wasn't expecting the lead vampire to be a WHITE LIBERAL CULTURE VULTURE :ohhh:

+ for that to take precedence over the Klan and for the non shilling black characters to REBEL AGAINST The White Liberal and DNC plantation unless they were BRAINWASHED :ohhh:

The Vampire lore was ass and inconsistent because it was just a vehicle to show how Black culture is DRAINED and appropriated because of how powerful it is. That's why as a traditional vampire movie it's :trash: and it's reasonable for someone expecting horror/vampires to be disappointed.

The movie overall is a 7/10 and it's MBJ's best acting performance. The main characters being twins made it better.

Just got back from seeing this in a PACKED theater. It was a hell of an experience. I haven’t felt that for a non-franchise movie since maybe Get Out a few years back. It’s too fresh in my head to do a coherent review, but some scattered thoughts:

It’s very a black story set in the Jim Crow-era South and the movie makes you aware of that. If you want a black-led movie with no heavy emphasis on race or black trauma, you’re not going to find it here. But it’s also just fun. You got vampire horror, hoodoo, blues music and Irish folk dances, comedy and horror. I can’t speak for anybody else, but I never had a problem with these types of movies if you can find a way to have fun with them, and this one does.

In a movie with MBJ, Hailee Steinfeld, and Delroy Lindo in it, Miles Caton was my standout. You’d never know he was a brand new actor in this. Really interested to see if anything comes out of this role for him. I feel like we have a lack of young black actors in Hollywood these days, so here’s hoping he’s a new breakout star.

Main villain was more nuanced than I expected him to be. It’s not just that he has a tragic backstory or that he – being an Irish victim of the British – feels like he can relate to the black characters. And obviously, as the bad guy, he’s pursuing a self-serving goal of connecting to his ancestors by stealing Sammie’s talents for himself. But he clearly sees what he’s doing as a service to the black characters and genuinely wanted to build some kind of community with them. It’d be too much to say that I felt sorry for him when he was killed off, but it definitely didn’t hit the same as when the KKK got killed in the end.

The blues song Sammie sings is going to be stuck in my head for a while.

I wish the natives showed up and were a big part of the climax

I loved all the characters

The Native Vampire Hunters were hard. They knew what time it was the entire time. Ryan's decisions and skills are on point with that said I think he should have showed the entire sequence of the Natives hunting Remmeck before he got to house. I'm not talking about a long scene but like 3 minutes of showing them hunting him. So yes this film though works fine as a stand-alone, there is spin-off potential. Smoke and Stack prequel as a Gangster Flick in Chicago in the 1930's and show them robbing banks and gangsters with Capone being the villain. Native American Vampire Hunters, show them hunting other Vampires. People are also calling for a Stack and Mary (Bonnie/Clyde) type film following them throughout history. LOL @ Sinners Cinematic Universe. Honestly I think Ryan is cool with it being a standalone.

Great movie, enjoyed every second of it

Only part that didn't quite make sense to me was

why would the KKk people who were planning on setting everyone up to kill them in the club, wait until the next morning to do it? Why wouldn't they do it at night when most people were gonna be there.

The KKK are, by nature, cowards. Why would they attack at night when they'd have to deal with two or three dozen black folks when they can come in the morning and go against one or two. Their objective was to get the money from the Twins AND get their shed back.

Come on Y'all already know the answer to this :mjlol: .

The Vampires come out at night. If the Klan came out night then the Vampires would of course have to turn them. The main characters also had to survive until sunrise. There was no way the movie could have the Klan show up at night for these reasons.

The klan should’ve come at night and been the start of Remmick’s horde. It would’ve made more sense to have a full house of Black people vs. Remmick and his army.

Instead, we got eight people vs. 20+ vampires at the end. Nobody should’ve survived until sunrise.

Natives show up at the last minute

Make it a 3 hour movie

Then Coogler would have to explain why the Natives bailed at the beginning.
Like another breh mentioned way earlier in this thread. He wanted to get his ideas off regardless of whether it made sense to the overall story or not.
