I figured he'd push for a non-NATO-aligned former Soviet territory like Moldova if Ukraine fell early. Now...

Putin is locking up his own generals and spy chiefs because he's not happy about how the war is going. At the same time, he's locking up protestors who are simply protesting the war.
That's the equivalent of Biden locking up William Burns, and then sending the police and military to put Ben Shapiro and Marjorie Taylor Green on house arrest simply because they disagree with his decisions.
