But in terms of grand strategy, they've fukked themselves for decades to come, even generations.
Russian military power was better as a threat, a stick to dangle over the heads of nervous Eastern European regimes. Now what? Russia has lost more men in a week than America did in 20 years of global conflict. NATO hegemony has been solidified. European neutrality is a thing of the past. They've gained a ungovernable neighbor on their southern border, with the potential for an insurgency that could pump out terrorists who look exactly like the Russians do and speak the same language.
