I think this week the Oligarchs will step up and end this shyt.

Why do so many people hope for this? It's not going to happen. It isn't America, it isn't a western country. Capital does not run Russia, power runs Russia. Putin has power. He has the army. He has the secret service. He has the Spetznatz. If you are a billionaire Russian, you are no different to a regular Russian for him. He will drop you if you get out of pocket.

Nobody can step up and take him out unless it's a military coup. When Hitler dominated Germany the industrialists didn't dare to oppose him, because they knew they were powerless. Money doesn't buy you power except for in a capitalist liberal democracy. In dictatorships like Nazi Germany or like Russia or China, it's not the industrialists and the billionaires who run the show, it's whoever can mass the greatest amount of guns behind him. That's Putin, or failing that, an army chief, a big five star general or something. Just like with Hitler. The conspiracy to take him out from within, Operation Valkyrie, that was led by a General, a Major General, and a Colonel. All top brass in the military. They're the only type of people who have enough power to pull off something like that in a dictatorship

Plus people neglect the unifying factor of a foreign enemy even in a dictatorship.

I've experienced this personally as someone protesting Milošević regime back in 1996/97.
There is a reason why those protests happened between two wars, and continued only in 2000, after the Kosovo war.
Fear of dictatorship is only a part of it, the other is the unifying reaction to a foreign enemy.

Ousting Russian paraolympians from the games, or musicians from Eurovision, or banning Tchaikovsky from Berlin philharmonics are attacks on Russians in general.

Those will have a unifying anti-west reaction inside Russia.

We are heading towards a nuclear war, while everyone is sure the other side will back down.
