Objectively, Russia just want a security deal and keeping up the promise that US/NATO wouldnt encroach their borders when the USSR dissolved. Look at the NATO map since 91 . . . they've already pushed onto the russian border and looking to add Ukraine and Georgia next. Consider China or Russia started stationing up troops on the US/Canada or US/Mexico border and what the reaction would be. In fact we already know the answer to that dont we? Both the russians and americans agreed to fall back . .

Russia isn’t making new land. If it retakes these countries it still bordering Europe/NATO. That’s like moving a fence three inches to the left. You are still neighboring the same people just a few inches left.

The thing is if Russia can get Ukraine back into the fold, whether by annexation or puppet government, theyre back in the superpower race. Ukraine has 44 million people, many of them highly trained and educated plus access to a warm water port, with advanced industry and the ability to produce enough grain to sell to other countries, a whole lot of minerals and ores...
