The idea that they were going to regain the 1991 borders was a genuine pipe dream.
A very realistic take besides the idea mobilizing more people is going to solve the problem. Every Ukrainian who wanted to fight has already volunteered, got wounded or is dead. Snatching more people off the street or lowering the mobilization age to 20 isn’t going to magically make things better and stop the advances. They will never have enough motivated people, time or funding to properly train or equip them.
The last sentence of his tweet is the reality that’s approaching that many people do not want to believe. If things continue the way they are going, Ukraine is going to crack sometime in 2025. They cannot sustain this attritional warfare for much longer. Colder weather is setting in and their energy infrastructure has been decimated. It’s why people like Chancellor Scholz want to start talks now and why you will start to see more and more articles about freezing the current lines of contact and getting a ceasefire.
