They arent answering because they are scared, they arent because they don't want to tell him no to his face
I don't know if he's going for public sympathy or just genuinely asking but that's the cold truth here.
The ramifications of a NATO Ukraine are too big and unfortunately, that situation is probably not gonna change. Mainly, NATO has two blocks, the anglosphere and the Euros. The Anglosphere are pretty much shielded from any real Russian retaliation (economic first but military too ultimately) : UK is across the pond, the US the atlantic and their economies do not have much Russian imports.
That is not the case for Euros and that's why Europeans are doing some realpolitik and have been trying to negotiate as much as possible and have veto'd any talk of Ukraine joining Nato. The Anglos arent sharing the same land as Russia and aren't trading partners so it's easy for them to put batteries on Ukraine's back at the risk of a full continental war. There's a reason why as long as Putin is president, France and Germany will veto it.
There is no geographical border between Ukraine and Russia. Same between France and Belgium or Germany and Poland for example which means the people neighboring those borders are often very close to each other. And because there are close ties between Russia and Ukraine, I don't see how Ukraine can join NATO any time soon.
Ukraine also have two major issues : it has two regions actively trying to secede and a region that has been illegally annexed by Russia. Why the hell would NATO let a member join which would immediately trigger article 5 and a war against Russia.
Putin wants to keep Ukraine within its sphere of influence and that invasion is him saying to the West that if he can't have it, nobody will. That country is basically victim of an influence war and its fate is in someone's else hand. With no disrespect, it's a more or less a pawn on a chessboard
IMO, the best outcome to this would be Ukraine managing to hold off Russia to a cease fire and then be made a member of the European Union. The EU has a defense force so it would be a compromise when it comes to military help while keeping a pseudo-neutrality when it comes to NATO.
NATO officially stating Ukraine would join would basically be a green light for Putin to burn it to ashes IMO
