nobody is talking about taking russia. they do, however, claim they want to take land russia now occupies in the east. how that can possibly happen will probably either be with some dramatically increased weaponry from the west or just being willing to wait decades for russia to let it go for some political reason.
That’s not Russian occupied land. That’s Ukraine. That’s always been the objective. Crimea is slightly different but still the same issue.

They don’t need to take back every inch of land back. They just need to make it untenable for Russia to maintain a significant force there sustainably.

The US didn’t beat the South in every state during the Civil War. They took out their major supply lines and collapsed their ability to maintain the war effort. No one except Iran is rushing to aid Russia militarily and even Iran has limited ability.

Now what makes Russia ‘s war effort unsustainable? That’s the key.

occupied land point seems to be semantics...

they are not making it untenable, that is the problem i have outlined. russia resorted to its relative technological advantage and ukraine does not yet have an answer. holding territory and firing cruise missiles at infrastructure while ukraine does little about it seems pretty sustainable.

a structurally inferior side waging a civil war is not the same as an occupation from a superior force where the home country of the invader is untouched and free to maintain international relations.

ukraine is protecting its infrastructure?
russia is not in the middle east and africa? russia does not do trade with allied nations?

when did this all happen?

All of those things have been threatened, hindered or physically been undermined by the Ukrainian war effort.
