Clyde Drexler fell off at around this same time. So did Vince Carter, Dwyane Wade, Shawn Kemp. Julius Erving maybe one year older.

Iggy when he was even younger than that. Hell, Blake Griffin is falling off right now.

You can really tell which players had games that actually are predicated on athleticism. :sas2:
Clyde's numbers never really dropped though and even in his last year he was still getting close to 20 a night.

Clyde's peak was 1988-1992. As a Portland fan you could really feel him drop off after that, and when we lost him it felt like losing our guy on the decline, it wasn't losing a superstar. His 1993-95 stats at Portland were a big efficiency drop-off and he didn't even make all-star in 95. His numbers were propped up again when he got the benefit of playing next to a dominant Dream with shooters (also remember they shortened the 3pt line that year so that artificially boosted 3pt% for a lot of mediocre shooters), but prime Drexler would have been a superstar in that situation while 33yo Drexler was just a 19-6-6 guy shooting 43%.

Hard to say if Westbrook is finished.

But his shooting is significantly worse, as is his free throw shooting and defense. We're talking about a 21 game sample size here but it does not look good.
It's possible playing with Harden last season boosted his efficiency but he's less efficient now than even his years in OKC.

It's worth considering if the best case scenario is to limit him to strictly ball distributing/rebounding and shift some of the offensive load to Bertans/Mathews/Hachimura.

Clyde and Vince weren’t ball dominant so the fall off wasn’t as dramatic. Vince in NJ was still a top wing in the league. And that was at age 32.

Same with Drexler. Houston doesn’t repeat without him. He was the key in that Orlando series. He effectively canceled out Penny Hardaways production.

And Russ been better than Wall this season. I’m shocked to come to this realization but Russ has more self-awareness Wall at this point in their career.

:comeon:

Clyde averaged 21.5 points and 6.8 assists on 45% shooting, 15% from three.
Penny averaged 25.5 points and 8.0 assists on 50% shooting, 45% from three.

Clyde was a capable #2 at that point but just 3 years earlier he was supposed to be the second-best #1 in the league and it would have been assumed that he would outproduce anyone other than prime MJ. If you watched the series the main memory was Hakeem and Clyde constantly kicking out to shooters who were knocking down everything, not Clyde scoring on Penny or holding him down on defense.

The key in the series was Orlando's four big shooters outside of Penny looking average (29-92, 31%) while Houston's four big shooters outside of Clyde shot the lights out (34-77, 44%). Houston was also super disruptive on defense, forcing Orlando into 64 turnovers while only committing 39 turnovers themselves. Clyde did his part but it was just a part of a group effort, he wasn't the transcendent star he had been up through 1992.

He's trying to play like he's 22, instead of playing like he's on the tail of his career, middies and getting to the FT line for easy points would be the formula but he still wants to play 0 to 100 and going nowhere.

I would have thought he would thrive in this offense but he's regressing, grant it, it's only 3 games or so.

Him and Joker may need to do PNR, like him and Steve Adams use to rock back in OKC.

I think at this point, Russ just need to have the ball with the 2nd unit and let the offense play through him. He's not an off-ball player late in his career.
