They are shytting their pants:mjlol:. They better hope that the CEO, who is a straight up numbers man, doesn’t see day 1 releases as profitable.
I hope he does see them as profitable. Some of yall have such a warped sense of this business. Everything is some contest for who is #1. In reality as in most fields many companies can exist in the same space all of them being successful. Amazon Prime, HBO Max, and Netflix can all exist at the same time and all of them can be successful. As a consumer doesn't really concern me who has the most subscribers I'm only focused on the product they're putting out.

I’m not talking about just disney plus, I’m talking about disney movies. Similar to sony 1st party, they generate too much revenue on their own to give them away for free

Thats why scarlet Johansson sued disney for dropping widow on Plus. They made half the revenue they would have it they forced people to watch it in theaters. Which made a case for her not receiving proper kick back for ticket sales
They wouldn't be giving any game for free in a paid subscription system. Sony's games aren't analogous to Disney's movies since Disney actually makes the highest-grossing movies in the market and of all time, Sony's doesn't usually crack the top 10 yearly.

If anything, there needs to be more data presented to prove a large loss of revenue and profit for offering big-name titles on the day of release on a subscription service. EA, Ubisoft, Apple, Google, and Microsoft all have these services that do this so it would be interesting to see their data for their big-name games.

I don’t understand how the internet is going crazy over this news. This is a whole bunch of nothing. Psnow and Psplus both currently exist as separate services. All Sony are doing are merging both services into one. That’s pretty much it. Why is this such a big news again? :gucci:

Jason Schrier calling it Gamepass competitor as a clickbait headline has made people go crazy and not even bother reading the article. If he had said Sony were planning to merge Psplus and Psnow into one service I doubt anyone would pay attention.

Because jason Schriere compared it to gamepass to get clicks so now all the xbox stans are riled up.

I guarantee sony had no intention of debuting this rebrand as a gamepass competitor.

I read it and no where did they say it will have day one PS5 games like God of War Ragnarok on there. This will more likely be merging psnow and PlayStation plus and offering new benefits. Their AAA first party games still sell quite a lot day one so I can’t see them putting them on a subscription service.

How much do devs even profit from the service?

HBO, Netflix etc don't spend billions in R&D to put out hardware that they want to sell.
Maybe in some hardware less or cheap USB plug in future your dream can be realized.

So according to Jason’s article….

Although the PlayStation has outsold the Xbox in recent years, Sony has lagged behind Microsoft on the subscription front. With this new structure, Sony will look to compete with an Xbox feature that has been popular and lucrative,” Bloomberg says.

Sony doesn’t lag behind Microsoft in any capacity. PlayStation Plus has more subscribers than gamepass and actually makes more money than the entire Xbox gaming division. Sony doesn’t need a gamepass because their games sell extremely well. And lastly gamepass is in no way lucrative for Microsoft. It’s a huge money pit so bad they didn’t even announce the subscriber numbers nor have they ever announced how much money it makes because it doesn’t make any.
