Apart from the bad int, (which I’ll admit was terrible) What did he do today to prove this thread? The downfield Td he threw was on audible that he made at the line.

How many throws today do you estimate he had protection that wasn’t a called screen? Im bet it’s not more than 5. Last year the hit on fields was he never takes the dump off, now it’s shytting on him for taking the check down. I agree. Babying him won’t help him. Let him actually throw the football and dont call 100 screens. If he drowns he drowns.
did you watch the entire game? he simply isnt confident throwing into NFL windows, he had pockets today, he just holds the ball - this has been his whole career now. hes in his 3rd year now, hes not playing good enough - its that simple, you dont need to sugar coat his performances or excuse them

A lot of times the break down in protection is his fault, he abandons the pocket almost immediately as he steps up into it. Then goes back into the now fukked up pocket and then back out :wtf:

When he commits to standing in the pocket he’s staring muthafukkas down or not even going through progressions because he’s waiting for a running lane.

He’s got a lot of issues breh

To be fair, I turned off the TV after the pick 6. Up until that point I honest to god don’t think there was anything fair to assess from 15 screen attempts and only like 5 legitimate drop backs. I’ll wait till the all 22 drops but even his early check downs I was happy about because that was legitimately his biggest problem area last year. By the numbers he was the worst short throw passer in the league last year so Ngl I wasn’t mad about seeing him get to his check downs consistently in the first half. Unless players were running wide open in the secondary and he was just dumping in down, I have no problem with that. I gotta see the all 22. If that’s the case, I’ll come back and apologize and dap/ rep every negative post about fields in this thread.

Maybe there was more after I changed the channel but I think most of the trouble today was garbage playcalling. Like how can I judge a players ability to go throw progressions when 70% of the calls are screens? They even abandoned the thing that he did well with only having 1 designed run the whole game. That is ridiculous. Like damn, if you think he’s a running back at least run him.

100% agree with the bolded, I just don’t think that was the case today. I think the pocket was legit breaking down. But that is one of fields biggest issues for sure. Way too eager to bail out of the pocket

problem is everything here can be true but it doesn’t change the fact that he either doesn’t see open receivers or doesn’t feel confident throwing to them. this is why he is always holding the ball. he has some serious things to work through. the expectation was we would see improvement here this season but as of week one, it hasn’t progressed at all, even with legit WR talent to throw too

It reminds me of how Wilson in Seattle and Watson in Houston always had "bad OLs" when in reality they either held onto the ball forever or would bail early and then reset and create that pressure. They offset that with big time throws and great efficiency though so their offenses were still really good (+ their running ability).

You're getting all those bad traits in Fields without the good in the air to balance it out. Cracking big runs is cool but isn't sustainable and gets you hit way too much.

I’m just saying, you might be right but based on the plays called I can’t even assess that. If they called up some plays for him to throw some non screens and he was holding the ball, I’d agree. You may be 100% right but I really don’t think that was the problem today other than his god awful int. Like I said, I’ll look at the all 22, if he was missing wide open receivers for check downs, I’ll come back and eat all the crow.

The int was awful. So was the fumble but if you watched that game and you blame this on fields, you just hate this nikka :pachaha:. Plain and simple. The play calling and o-line play was beyond embarrassing. They’ll always blame the QB tho:francis:. It’s a wrap for my dog. If this is an indication of how the years gonna go they’re probably gonna clean house at the end of the season. Gm to coach to QB. What a train wreck
There's a reason they are calling those plays, when he throws the ball downfield it's a disaster waiting to happen cause he just stares down recievers

If that’s the case they just need to trade him while he has value or at the very least run some designed runs. 1 designed run the whole game? For fields? That’s malpractice. That’s the very least you can do if you don’t believe in his throwing ability. Additionally, Zero roll outs? Not one play moving the pocket? That’s insane

The o line is still trash. The defense shyt what defense. However Fields was running his ass off last year idky he didn't do that this game. If your read isn't open and you know the oline isn't gonna hold up break away. I still got hope for the breh tho. It's week one and he looked better than burrow who we all know is better.

I don't understand how they figured out how to run effective offense around Fields skillset at the end of last season, and come out this year looking this awful.

I saw no progression. There wasn't anything that looked like they were building off from last season, despite having better weapons.

I'll say this tho, the Bears played it right imo. Didn't bush Fields for a QB last draft and stocked up picks/talent, but if he looks like this, this season the Bears are definitely drafting a QB in this upcoming draft class.
