Majority of the the novels and comics are a lot more "serious" than the current seven movies. Since everything goes through the same story group I'm sure the movie will be straight.
Hey, y'all heard this theory about Jar Jar Binks being Darth Plaguies?Supposedly the reveal was gonna happen in Ep. 3 but Lucas punked out because of the backlash, and wrote in Count Dooku.
Man, if that's true, I would want JJ to see it through, just for the mindfukk.

if episode 7 was a remake disguised as a reboot then maybe rogue one is a remake disguised as a spinoff. once again a band of rebels face darth vader, the evil empire and their new death star.
hopefully the movie is very character based because if it's overly plot based it probably won't be all that good. we already know the f'n plot and we already know the death star isn't going to be destroyed in the end (unless they tie it in with events from ANH)... so they're really gonna have to make us care what happens to the characters.
