I think ppl forget that ALC was Eminem's tour dj most of the 00s and a few times in the last ten years too iirc. He was doing that and producing and trying to get placements. He's good on the chase now.

I remember him saying somewhere that he has an open door policy on his studio too. So if you're a friend in LA you can drop by whenever.
Exactly.

And real talk, I think people would be surprised at how open door it is. It's not that difficult to get into dude's studio if you're a friend of a friend. Al is open minded and willing to give people a fair shot. I know for sure that there are some bigger name rappers that have offered large numbers and wanted to work via email that Al has turned down because it's just not fun for him to work that way.

He does an occasional long distance work, but it's very rare and it's usually with people he's already well established with.

I also remember a story where Nothing On Me was for Chemical Warfare, and he gave the record to Lil Wayne in exchange for being able to get Wayne, Fab, and Juelz for other records down the road. He said it was a massive pain to get all that taken care of. People might not remember now, but that album was years delayed by the time it dropped.

Raekwon, Jadakiss and Jim Jones from the old heads.
Add Styles P too. I remember after The Myth dropped that there was a lot of buzz on Twitter that they had at least an EP in the stash, but nothing ever came of it. Styles is actually my favorite regular collaborator with Alc that goes back as many years as he does.

I remember he dropped that ep like a year before the album just to tide ppl over. I miss that fast chop Al sometimes and still can't believe we got a Triple 6 x ALC track. Dude is a legend man fukk it:

I miss the fast chop style too. I'll tag @subletteafterdark on this because he may know more about the history on it, but I remember Al saying he did that style in the mid-late 2000's as a way of playing around with using chops instead of conventional hi-hats. So if you go back and listen to a lot of those beats like Surgical Gloves, Wet Wipes, Back Again, Nothing On Me, Bang on 'Em, Chase the Clouds Away, Let Yourself Go, etc, a lot of those beats don't have hi-hats, and he's using the 8th note repetitive chops in place of them.

I wish he'd bring that back for a few beats here and there. Sometimes I hear him stuttering the chops right when a song starts, like he just did on Flight Risk off of Bo Jackson. But yeah. It's been a while since I've heard them used after the beat drops.

looking forward to this. mainly because I want a change of pace Roc album like Dark Horse were he's not handling the bulk of the production.

also, as far as Alc working with people..I want to hear him work with guys like;

Larry June, Babyface Ray, G Herbo, Valee, Shawny Binladen, Tony Shhnow, Navy Blue, Wiki, Remy Banks, Big Kahuna OG
Raekwon, Jadakiss and Jim Jones from the old heads.

Heavy co-sign on Big Kahuna OG. He needs to take that next step and Al could definitely be the one to do that.

I need to listen to more Big Kahuna OG, especially since I've been getting into more of Graymatter's production, and it looks like they work together a lot. Is there a project of theirs you think is the best place to start?

His collab with Fly Anakin Holly Water is probably his most well-rounded project. Graymatter has a handful of beats on there. Thug Tear with Monday Night is very good, too. On my work computer so I can't post youtube links but Shorty Anthem is the track that really got me in to him. Personally I would just run thru Holly Water to start.

This bruh knows his Mutant Academy :wow:

That album (Holly Water) is great. But Kahuna's best album (with Graymatter) is Scooby Snax.
@Freddie.Cane come school these dudes.

What rappers should he be working with?
Jadakiss
Benny The Butcher
38 Spesh
Conway
Royce The 5’9
Black Thought
Ransom

There’s plenty of great MC’s for him to work with I just don’t get why he spends so much time doing full projects with small acts. Next thing you know he’ll drop an album with Big Body Bes smh
