All bullshyt aside @Muad'dib total recalls greatness had less to do with Arnold than Verhoovens. Total recall as a property tho is based on a book so it can be adapted till the cows come home and it won’t bother me. The most recent one is actually closer to the source material anyway so :manny:

But it’s Verhoovens sensibilities and sense of humor and thoughtfulness that made total recall and robocop and starship troopers what they are. The reason this movie has a chance, for me anyway, is because of the director and the people involved with the first robocop are involved with this one. Having the original creators onboard and using their script as a launching pad is always a good look.

They wrote that script before the internet was a mainstream thing. I don't even think any film journalists have seen the script. Probably just the original studio, Paul, and maybe Frank Miller:russ:

That's another thing about Robocop now: It's such a satire of Frank Miller's shyt from that period, will the current culture have any touchstones for it?
He made he's original sequel script into a comic. It wasn't all that bad, imo.

He also wrote the script for part 2 which was....okay at best:francis:
You know how scripts get altered. His script was "unfilmable" and the studio had it reworked but he still got credit. Robocop 2 and the comic he made using his script are night and day.

Blomkamp hasn't delivered anything worthwhile since District 9 and that one is overrated too, but if people want to keep faith in him, be my guest.:hubie:
You could make an argument about his other films but pls explain how D9 is overrated:jbhmm:
Critics gave the movie average reviews. They only hold Neil to the standard of the movie and he fell short twice.

That was definitely missing from the reboot. The humor, costumes, futuristic sets. It felt stripped down and boring. I gotta get around to watching Electric dreams
I wonder how they did with PKD material.

He is a tough pill to swallow. His dialogue can be archaic and pretentious at times

Which is normally why I'm not with it. Sin City I like. Sin City 2, which I believe was more him than Rodriguez, no thank you. Then there's the Spirit. And then there's all the recent stuff he's written comic wise

District 9

It got a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes and was nominated for a Best Picture Oscar, it definitely got critical acclaim

I personally think it’s a great action flick but very overrated as far as being a satire and apartheid allegory. They could’ve gone way deeper with that concept than they did but I realize the movie probably wouldn’t have been as entertaining if they did
