Minimum wage is a pittance. Corporations aren't leaving because the government is giving out benefits too swell to the people. Look at the rate of CEO wage inflation compared to the rate at which the worker's wages rose. Absolutely no comparison. Corporations are leaving because they can continually shift between labor markets, thus pitting them against each other, and continually lowering labor costs by doing so. "Hey bud, you want $60,000 a year AND benefits? How about $30,000 and no benefits or else I ship this job to India or China and hire 4 workers for 1 of you?" What do you think all of these free trade agreements are for? The problem is that corporations told a huge lie and the people believed it. They are so powerful they even affect our text books, because you see their rhetoric all in textbooks about 'globalization' and the such. The biggest lie they told us is that they were shipping those loser manufacturer jobs to other nations because we were moving to a 'knowledge' economy and that these elite knowledge jobs won't be going anywhere. Yeah right. As soon as they are able to, they will be shifting those to other cheaper labor markets as well, or importing guys here via h1b visas... which a lot of people have seen, especially in something like the IT market. As technology enables information to be transferred from place to place much quicker, we will see a lot more of these knowledge jobs going too.
I'm telling you, you better start learning some entrepreneurial skills, because if you solely rely on corporations for your bread and butter to pay you fairly, you're going to be hurting. They are willing to lower the costs of labor by any means necessary and technology makes job competition much more intense, thus serving as a wage lowering mechanism... so you better learn to produce income streams via entrepreneurial pursuits, because relying solely on a job is giving corporations way too much power when their intent is clear.
