Not everyone is fit for college. Everyone gets a loan. What did people think was going to happen?

Make it tougher to get a loan, less ppl going to college getting bullshyt degrees.....tuition will go down and diploma mills will be forced to get better.

everybody can't be successful that's just reality, just because most people fail at something, why discourage somebody
who has what it takes to become one of the few
that's why I support kids who want to be rappers or entertainers, they got just as good as chance as somebody
going to college
you don't need a degree to even get a job in any field just a connection, they can train you when you get hired
even if it's something to do with engineering which is such a broad term it can mean anything

While I agree the loan racket is a scam to all high hell why are people in here comparing a degree to rapping or acting like that paper isn’t worth ANYTHING? If you live in NYC and can’t find a job it’s time to gtfo, particularly if you’re fresh to your field. I’ve not met a college kid worth a damn that isn’t able to secure SOME type of work in their field. Honestly you want me to tell you the biggest thing I see right now from “college” aged kids? It’s expectations being set to high. They get a degree and automatically want to be making 80k a year. Not gonna happen (save a few industries…which let’s be honest not all are cut out for).

I can’t even count the number of young bucks getting upset because they’ve been working for 2 years, 2 fukin years and aren’t a manager yet? :comeon:

This might just be anecdotal but I’ve worked in enough companies and seen this same shyt time and again that I find it hard to believe I’m just getting lucky.

This lawyer dude in the article probably applied to a shyt ton of big time law firms because he felt his Harvard degree or what not was enough, then he couldn’t get work there he just said fuk it.

Pay your dues, work your way up, start small, get big.

The debt though…fuk that. Unless you’ve got a shyt ton of scholarship money there’s no reason ANYONE should be attending a NON CC school for their general education courses.

To the point of the article though, some truth in lending would be nice for these kids about to embark on literal debt slavery.

From a G standpoint you gotta hand it to the banks though. They sell you some broken shyt and then you’re FORCED to pay it.

I don't buy this argument, I think if you feel like you are cut for it, you should aim straight for the top....

YOU may feel that way. The problem is the 100's of people who have been in said company for years working their way to the top. They don't always latch on to the first kid out of college and want to hoist him on their shoulders and let him lead the way.

Granted there are times you CAN do this, you typically have to be very skilled and knowledgeable....most people are not.

ALWAYS aim for the stars, just don't get all broken down when you find yourself having to climb mountains before you can reach them.

This is a real problem too...the system shouldn't be set up to have 17-18 year olds shouldn't be signing off the next 20-30 years of their life for some bogus dream to be a child psychologist and a guarantee be in the middle class by doing so. I tell everyone nowadays get the best education they can for the least amount of money, and in a lot of cases short of the Ivy League that may be community college or trade school and than down the line a 4 year university once your mind is right.

My neice just graduated high school, was the head of class (class president), and damn near the valedictorian...but she's going off to some school in upstate NY that costs 40K a year, but has no clue what she wants to do. Its indicative of too many high schoolers nowadays; and its damn near a crime to saddle so many people with that kind of debt, no direction, and more and more; no way to pay it back. Its fukked up because you should know what your signing up for; but its even more fukked because the people who are lending the money have to know its another bubble waiting to burst.

I graduated high school in 1996 before the tuition got so outrageous. I made sure I graduated in 4 years. no extra semesters or anything. and I took some classes at the community college over the summer to save money. I still had loans. but not astronomical loans. I got a partial scholarship due to the internship I got, and my parents helped, and I ended up with like 10K in student loans total. of course this was 13 years ago when I graduated, but I was able to pay them off. I told myself, I'd never go back to school cuz the cost of education is just ridiculous for what you get in return it seems.

also when I went to college, I knew the day I stepped on campus what I wanted to major in, so I didn't have to bullshyt and figure out what I wanted to do. I was lucky that I had a clear goal in mind.

As long as you can get a loan, then college is for everyone.....

Its Business 101....The high schools push kids towards college, and so does the media. Since the loans are subsidized, colleges don't have to compete for quality students anymore....

And its sad that a profession as important and noble as teaching is now considered a sorry degree....I'm gonna hate to see what society is like in America about 30 years from now
