Just got back...great movie...since im a science head it really played into what I look for in a science fiction movie and it reminded me how Interstellar dropped the ball

Just got back from seeing it. It was pretty good, but I feel like it would've been doper had it come out before Gravity or Interstellar or if they waited a few years. The movie seemed like a weird combination of those two films and didn't really bring anything new to the table. I sort of want to read the book though because I feel like getting a perspective of the character being the only one on the planet would be dope. Wish they could've dived more into that, but I understand why they didn't.

I'd give the movie an 8/10, but I feel like Interstellar & Gravity were better movies :manny:

Is it better than Interstellar?
I don't wanna get into this debate but i agree with the below. Its very entertaining and may be more watchable because its way more lighthearted than those flicks.. I like my movies a little more on the serious side

You and I are in the minority in our opinions on interstellar.
Interstellar & Gravity were better movies

the problem with Interstellar was everything was a coincidence and the science was flimsy at best....

Cooper just happens to walk in the space mission at the time they "needed" him.

Everything was a great assumption...the ending was a slap in the face

What the hell was the "problem with gravity" and how did they solve it?....:mjpls:

yet on the Martian...there was an explanation for everything....the science was fascinating and sound.....the stakes were higher...and the characters were actually believable

What? Kip Thorne was hired as a consultant for Interstellar, and they even produced a book behind it. Neil Degrasse Tyson even co-signed concepts behind the movie.

The Science of Interstellar

If you want to talk about The Martian being scientifically accurate...

The atmospheric pressure on the Martian surface averages 0.087 psi, about 0.6% of Earth's mean sea level pressure of 14.69 psi. It is so low that a "Fierce storm" as they put it would be something akin to a very light breeze messing up your hair. Author, Andy Weir, admitted this was his biggest inaccuracy in the story. Due to the low air density sound would not travel like it does on Earth and you would have to stand next to someone and scream for them to hear you, providing you could survive the freezing cold temperature, poisonous atmosphere and lack of pressure.

On another note, lol@Chiwetel Ejiofor playing an Indian character. "My dad is Hindu and my mom is Baptist." :mjlol:

lol seriously? ridley gonna ridley

Probably the only thing in the movie I didn't like. I read on the IMDB trivia page that the character was supposed to be portrayed by token Hollywood Indian actor Irfan Khan, but they couldn't get him due to his schedule. I don't know why they didn't just change the character's name. They even threw in that little piece of dialog explaining his background for some reason :heh:
