interstellar was a grower for me. Iike, obviously I liked it the first time I watched it but the movie goes pretty deep with it's ideas and it takes a lot to digest, I've rewatched it at least 20 times. I love McConaughey personally but this film is incredible, it might be my favorite Nolan film. And Hanz Zimmer lays down one of his best musical scores ever.
.

spends all that time trying to get back to his daughter and when he finally does hes spends a minute talking to her and bails out like she wasnt important. wasnt that the whole point of the movie?

ive never understood that part of the movie

Well, she said no parent should have to see their child die. They had their moment of being reunited, and Murph had all her new family there with her so she probably want to say her goodbyes to them as well since they all flew in to see her out of cryostasis. I mean, to be more exact the entire point of the movie was to save the human race and find another inhabitable planet. Which was accomplished by Dr. Brand lying to Cooper to get him to go in the first place. I think it was just a matter of the passage of time, Murph lived an entire life and Cooper was not apart of it at all. Idk. I didn't find it that weird for her to make that request.

I've been watching it more and more and I feel the exact opposite. I like it less than before and what takes me out of it primarily is the music. All these disco songs and corny shyt just kind of takes the aspect of danger away from the movie. I never felt that Matt Damon's character was in any danger and that he'd always come up with a solution to whatever problem was thrown at him.
Interstellar on the other hand just keeps getting better every time I watch it and everyone knows Hans Zimmer can't be touched when it comes to movie scores. The docking scene alone was so damn intense and the music was simply amazing.

@Monoblock I felt the exact same way when I first watched it in theaters, I never felt like Matt damon was going to die on that planet (same problem I have with 95% of superhero films) there was always a plan concocted to fix whatever problem arose. And he was way too damn happy/upbeat in that situation. But the comedy did work better on me on subsequent viewings so it has a little charm in that fashion, but if Ridley wanted to attempt to create a more classic scifi flick I think he should've displayed the psychological torture being stranded on a fukking alien planet. Subsequent viewings mad me enjoy it more. It was just a different type of sci-fi then I expected, I expected something a bit more mysterious/cerebal instead of just visceral. docking scene is the best. Have you watched the short video about Hanz Zimmer making the score for Interstellar? It's well worth the watch.

No I haven't watched it and thanks for the link and yea I guess I agree to the point of it not being a traditional sci-fi flick. Like you said I just expected the focus to be more on Matt Damon than everyone else back on Earth. I still have no idea why the white girl at NASA who discovered him still being alive got so much screen time. She barely said two words and they always had the camera on her. Kristen Wiig's character was pretty much useless and a few others. It's a cool movie but Matt Damon came off so smug and self assured that the sense off danger all but disappeared. No intense scenes at all more of a light hearted comedy closer to Home Alone than Sci-Fi.

The Martian is better than Interstellar to me.

I think I had wayyy higher expectations for Interstellar, I was expecting an all time classic magnum opus from Nolan and what it turned out to be was an above average Sci-Fi flick. Nothing terrible at all but it doesn't lend itself to repeat viewings and it didn't really impact me the way I thought it would.

The Martian however is a dope feel good movie. Matt Damon did a great job and really so did the entire cast. I've watched it and will continue to watch it more than I ever will Interstellar.

OK I'm late as fukk but finally watched this. I wanted to read the book first, and finally finished it a few weeks back.

I liked it, but I kind of wish I didn't read the book first because I think the book is better. Like others said, they got rid of the dust storm and the rover tumbling over when he is going to Ares IV site - I was reading that part on a plane and literally gasped and went :damn:. Another thing about the book is it kind of drags some parts, but that makes total sense and is done deliberately, Watney is on Mars for 1.5 years, so you feel the tone of isolation while reading. I wish the movie did a better job with that.

Also, Kristen Wiig's character could've been cut, she adds nothing and has like 3 lines. She's supposed to be Media Relations but Vincent seems to talk more in the press conferences. This was actually annoying too, because her character in the book is pretty funny.

Speaking of Vincent, lol at him playing an Indian character and keeping the last name of Kapoor. I know he was the second choice after Irrfan Khan, but should've just changed his name. But Chiwetel did a good job.
