Depends. Dynastic Egypt(the actually civilization) is about 3,000 years old. So he is right. But pre-dynastic Egypt is far older. Pre-dynastic Nubia/Sudan is even older. The Pharaonic culture actually came from Pre-dynastic Nubia/Sudan. The Sphinx though was most likely created during pre-dynastic Egypt since many archaeologist state its really old; some say around 7,000.

So again it depends.

Mannn fukk this cac, I would honestly respect him a little bit if he was like " I want this movie to make money, so I put in actors with name recognition. "
Agreed.

If he wanted to be up front, he could have just said white cast= more $$$. Since many higher ups in Hollywood think white people are the "default" demographic/audience.

Me thinks Egypt/Nubia during the pre-dynastic period was apart of a larger old culture in the Sahara when it was wet. I also think Egypt is much other than Sumeria and I have evidence for that claim.

Will Smith

Denzel Washington

I'll even throw in Idris Elba as he's got name recognition from Thor, Prometheus, and Pacific RIM and OBVIOUS acting chops

I'm still upset Will SMith gave up on his "Last Pharoah" project that he was trying to produce with his production company "Overbrook". I guess he couldn't get the financing for a "Black" lead Egypt film. That's sad that the Biggest Movie Star in the World can't even get a Black Lead Egypt film made.

I'll glad to.

For one most sources I read places Ancient Egypt dates higher than that of Sumer.

Ancient Egypt beginning about 3050 BC
--------
Ancient Egypt is considered to have begun about 3050 BC, when the first pharaoh Menes united Lower Egypt (referring to the river delta region of the Nile River), and Upper Egypt (everything south of the delta).
http://archaeology.about.com/od/ancientegypt/qt/egypt_timeline.htm

Ancient Egypt beginning about 3100 BC
--------
The ancient city of Memphis was the Old Kingdom (ca. 3100-2258 BC) capital of Menes, the traditional unifier of Upper and Lower Egypt. The site includes the famous alabaster sphinx (with the face of Amenophis II), and was also a capital of Ramses II.
http://archaeology.about.com/library/glossary/bldef_memphis.htm

Sumer was one of two Early Dynastic period (3000-2350 BC) communities in southern Mesopotamia between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers (the other was Akkad).
http://archaeology.about.com/od/sterms/g/sumer.htm

IIRC Sumer is the oldest civilization of Mesopotamia. Some sources states Sumer stating developing around 4,000 BC. Well one can also say Ancient Egyptian civilization ''started to really develop around 4,000 B.C''(pre-dynastic), there were even pre-dynastic Egyptian Pharaohs. And like said the Sphinx is said to be 7,000 years old, much older than 4,000 years.

And IIRC Egyptian writing is older than those found in Sumer. I think. I could be wrong.

That was a joke. This was real

Don't get it twisted I did like the movie but it shouldn't of been called "THE LAST" Samurai, that's disrespectful to Japanese culture to me. A better title would of been "Spirit of the Samurai" as Tom learned about the culture. But that ending with all those Japanese Samurai dying and Tom surviving just wasn't the right message to me.

The Exodus never happened, even if it involves real historical figures like Ramses. If the very basis of your story is false, then I don't know why the movie casting has to be historically accurate.
