that is the funnest parts about sci-fi movies. prometheus, looper, inception, we all had pages and pages full of discussion and theory.

ur right. but there's a difference between a well-told story the provokes discussion, and a movie full of holes that forces u to do work to figure out what the fukk is happening.

It's not necessarily full of holes. the movie is just extremely subtle at times. What doesn't make sense to you?

:wtf:

The plot holes, logical fallacies, and inconsistent behavior of characters has already been covered a good 20+ times. Check earlier in the thread.

Dude petting the alien, removing their helmet because the air is "breathable", Weyland hiding on his own ship during a mission he funded, scientists randomly getting lost 5 minutes after the movie established they have state-of-the-art mapping technology, homegirl running and jumping around after a C-section, the "self-surgery machine" conveniently being on the ship.....ugh.....

No offense but people are tired of giving the same examples just for people to hand wave them away because Ridley Scott or Damon Lindelof gave a 5 page interview. If they put as much effort into the movie as they did interviews "Prometheus" might not be terrible.

the scientists were supposed to be stupid lackeys. this wasn't a scientific expedition. Weyland wanted eternal life and he also wanted to bring back a xenomorph. he had to stay on that life support thing in the back of the ship because he was literally on the edge of death and didn't want his ulterior motives to be exposed. She was fukked up on pain meds, they took out a scene where she went back and injected even more pain meds into her.

The private quarters of weylands daughter was designed so she could survive in her own quarters in case something catastrophic happened on the ship.

The air was breathable, why would you not remove your helmet?

hmmm....all of those are pretty good points but why wouldn't a space ship traveling to another galaxy have a self surgery machine? there's a lot of head scratching moments in the movie but the self surgery machine seems plausible to me imo.....

Scientists =/= stupid lackeys. It was a scientific expedition. The shyt you just said don't even make sense. They aren't random goons, they're scientists on a trillion dollar mission....they even had specific branches of scientists for various aspects of the mission.

Weyland funded the trip. He could've told them "I want to fukk the alien"....what would they care? It's his money paying them, his idea, his mission. The sole reason to have him hide on the ship is for a dumb ass plot twist. When you are literally the only reason something is happening, you don't need to have ulterior motives. That's "movie logic".

And :snoop: at "it's breathable, why wouldn't they remove their helmets?".

Breathable air =/= safe. Air with smallpox in it is breathable....it still killed 300 million people. And that's on this planet. Who the fukk knows what is on another planet half way across the galaxy. And you can't even say "well, maybe they tested it" because....tested it for what? Keep in mind they had no experience with that planet, the aliens on it, or the black goo.

The self-surgery machine itself ain't the problem. The problem is they had a character randomly notice it, then another character do an exposition info dump, just so it could be established for the "C-section" scene later on. The way they handled that was amateur as fukk.

Same goes for the "I can't have kids" random moment. It was in the script solely to set up her getting pregnant with the alien.

Didnt she say that the Surgery machine could only be used on a male? Which was absolutely useless info. Script was beyond atrocious.

You trolling at this point right? Scientists being present and employed to work makes it a scientific expedition...especially in this instance. Also scientists being "stupid lackeys" is kinda an oxymoron. You don't become a scientist by being stupid but apparently thats what Ridley Scott wants to point out by pushing the god vs science undertone of the entire movie.

And as I said before, a woman being sent home to rest in bed after she gives birth by C-section is one thing. THe heroine was thrown 20 feet across a room and became Marion Jones after her C-section which was jokes...pain meds don't make you superwoman.

They were clearly not the top in their profession. Weyland knew what he was doing when assembling the team.

Future painkillers are most likely more stronger plus adrenaline. She was still in pain when it passed.
