I know this might sound like a stupid question but didn't Cormier have the belt?

Jones was the champ until the UFC stripped him of the title for getting invoilved in a hit and run car crash. Cormier won the vacant belt against Anthony Johnson in July, and was set to face Jon when Jones became officially reinstated, but he hurt his knee which led to the creation of an interim belt (placeholder belt) which Jones and St. Preux fought for tonight.

Like what I saw in the only 3 fights that mattered

Never been a fan of DJ but that was vicious, I was really rooting for the upset but respect needs to be given. Will still feel sick when he beats Anderson's record though

Always great to see Pettis lose, first they would say but but they only held him down and did nothing. Now he's losing in his office muay thai and after hooking up with Jackson at that:leon:. Stellar performance by barboza, I had feared he was shot from what Ferguson did.

Main event was a clinic to me, I think Jones is being held to the same standard Anderson was in his day. While he was cautious he definitely took risks and showed some tools in his arsenal. If that was GSP I am sure everyone would just be happy he was back doing his thing. OSP doesn't get any dap for lasting 5 rounds, some of his strikes were darn right pathetic. Always hated his style and the way he'd be talked about as a potential this and that. This hotshot to the title is good now he can fuk off. If I was ufc I would book him against Gus next

UFC should just make Jones/DC at 200 THEN do Gus for a title shot after that. DC is the fight everyone wants to see and the one we deserve after all this time.

Jones was on the Lebatard show a little while ago and said the order he wants is DC, Gus, Rumble, then heavyweight.

Jones definitely needed these 5 rounds so he can get that feel again. But I also think he purposely fought awkward in this fight to not give Cormier any scouting film. He even says it as much in the post fight presser he wasn't training for OSP. When you see clips of Jones training he's throwing heavy punches but tell me why he literally only threw about 10-15 punches in a 5 round fight. He's gonna rewatch this video and laugh at DC's statements. Jones took the Mayweather/GSP route he knows he just needed to win and he got some much needed octagon time with a guy who is dangerous but obviously was crippled in the later rounds of the fight which gave Jones more time to play in the octagon.

He didn't do ANYTHING...He just wanted to go 5 rounds for a moral victory...
He did plenty. Stamina is his biggest weakness and he was fighting on short notice so he had to preserve his energy. Still hit Jones harder than anyone I can remember.
