theres daily viral videos showing retail workers and fast food workers being verbally abused or physically assaulted. Besides the low wage, it's not surprising working in that environment would be off-putting to some people.

:mjlol:

What makes you think this doesn’t happen in white collar environments? Besides, viral videos are anecdotes that don’t reflect the reality of a situation....... and you are more than likely just uber sensitive or a child yourself. 10s of millions of nikkas have worked fast food at one point, but all of a sudden it’s not good enough employment for a teenager who is still staying at home?

We in trouble for real if this how y’all really thinking

Nobody wants a career at Wendy's, unless you are management or franchising one...

Retail is great to teach kids a lesson on what not to aspire to due to the abuse and low pay..

Well, plenty of adults work at Wendy’s, and a lot of people don’t want to have a career in general, regardless of what it is.....

I can't believe people are still making the same arguments about retail workers needing to level up or being lazy when the article is literally about retail workers leveling up.

This is not a story about company's having the same upper hand they've had for so long. The companies are the ones suffering, the burden to improve and become more attractive to employees is on them right now. That's why McDonalds are offering signing bonuses and why retail companies are offering higher wages. The response benefitting employees is happening regardless of how little you value retail work.

What are you even arguing for? Are you robots who can only repeat the same arguments? Are you incapable of disseminating new information?

Tf is this discussion right now?

In what sense should a person who is 18-21 not be able to earn a living wage? :what:

That person may live on their own and have to pay for rent or transportation. You sound like a selfish a$$hole.

And you can’t argue those jobs were never meant for that, when the jobs that were meant to be for a career were moved to Mexico and China and Vietnam and Thailand, etc.

You don’t seem to know what’s happened to the American worker. There was a time when a single salary would be able to pay for a car, a house and support two children.

There was a time when hotdogs cost a nickle but that time is gone
Those jobs will never go back to that, it would drive the prices through the roof and we will back to wear we started from

Prices are already through the roof and most people are living paycheck to paycheck which means they essentially are where they started at.

The improvement will be marginal, instead of fighting for a few extra dollars in a stagnant field like retail, it is better to just escape that space as many have done so far....

Sure companies are paying a fraction more but they will still do the same old tricks to mitigate labor costs:
-Automation
-Shift limits to avoid FT hours and OT for staff
- Bare minimum for pay raises

It is called a dead-end job for a reason....

You can move up in Wendy's. Like I said prior, a lot of these folks don't try and don't care to try. I worked at Walmart for 3 years, it's been 3 years since I left. I see the same folks there pushing carts, working in electronics, working the warehouse, etc.

These are jobs for teens, 20 year olds, and retired folks, nothing more.

A lot of these folks don't even try moving up in retail. Whenever I gotta go in Walmart, i see the same people who ain't went nowhere.

Coli doesn't like to admit it, but a lot of these folks are lazy and rather stay in their comfort zone. Instead of going back to school, they'll stay and fight for $20/hr
The problem is the wage stagnation in the U.S. of the last 40 or so years has screwed most workers. It is not about who is "lazy" or "comfortable", but it is about not being paid fairly.

We need to get out of the mindset of putting down people for asking, or even demanding more for what they do because it feeds the current inequality that almost all of us deal with.

What does wage stagnation have to do with grown adults not moving on to other jobs? These same people I knew 6 years ago still pushing carts. What does that tell you? And they own cars.

You're not supposed to be paid $20/hr for pushing carts, folding clothes, or sweeping the store. Those are simple tasks anybody can do
