It's funny to watch the reactions to this article across different platforms. I've noticed people saying things like how ungrateful these people are or how they're making it so retail jobs don't exist and they'll be replaced by automation which is such a strange response. This isn't a story about people just not working, this is about people realizing there are better opportunities and taking them. This is exactly what people have been saying to do forever, especially in response to the higher min wage discussions. This is exactly how the capitalistic market is supposed to work. If people don't want to work a job, they have to raise wages and improve their conditions. That's the market.

This reveals the truth, people are just mad that the class of workers that makes average people feel superior can do better. The general pop are crabs in a bucket man.
Americans are trained to be consumers and not have class solidarity.

This been true since the 70s.

It’s why you see people upset at chipotle price hikes or restaurants will say, “we will have to charge you more if we we pay our staff and give benefits.”

The market determines the wages, there is only so far a G.E.D or HS Diploma can take you....Leveling up via education or trades is the only way to get out of this rut...

Serious question... are you purposefully playing dumb and ignoring the point of the thread?

THE POINT OF THE THREAD IS THAT RETAIL/HOSPITALITY COMPANIES ARE PANICKING BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE NOT TAKING THE JOBS

This IS capitalism. If you want people to work these jobs, pay them more.

Ya'll over here acting like this thread about people getting mad at the minimum wage... that's not the point of the thread. Ya'll are completely missing it for some reason.

People have complained about the minimum wage forever, and companies just fired them and hired new people.

The difference now is that no one wants to work these jobs so no one is replacing these people. The companies are the one's facing the issue, and ya'll still here focusing on the workers? :dahell:

Use your brains please

my point is companies will adjust. Whether it be immigration or automation. I dont want to see any tears when they do

Let them crash and burn breh.. :mjlol:

These people think an 18 y/o with no resume history supposed to have a $80k a year job..

TYRONE GA!
The US military has invaded countries in the name of corporations. It’s not as easy as you think.

didn't say it was easy. But nothing is gained if you not willing to fight for it and continue to accept the status quo. many countries have fought back against US tyranny and made em fall back. People have fought all throughout history against the odds and have won. Gotta be willing to stand up.

Breh, they are doing it so that you can say that capitalism isn't exploitative.

I don't know what the right answer is, but capitalism is clearly not fair for anyone that isn't wealthy.

The COVID vaccine is a great example of that. The UK and Canada are mad at India for hoarding vaccines that were originally supposed to goto the Global South. Pfizer and Moderna do not want to open up the intellectual property to give the Global South a chance to make the vaccine, while the US will not give up the raw materials to make the vaccine.

Capitalism is all about exploitation. If people rise up against it,they are rising up against exploitation which means RIP to capitalism.

The only thing that I think will happen in September is panic honestly. I've been reading these reports closer and realizing that these hundreds of thousands of people are quitting/resigning.... Not being laid off.

You cannot get Unemployment if you just leave a job for no reason. And 649,000 people quit retail regardless of not getting UI. All these expectations that people are going to suddenly rush back to these low paying jobs in September might be a false hope companies are floating to make themselves feel better. These cats in denial. If those people left, and arent getting a check, they arent coming the fukk back period. They didnt leave for unemployment, they left to work elsewhere. All these articles including this one in this thread say stuff like this:

That means they are leaving these jobs and mainly finding other ones. Supply and demand. They not coming back to flip burgers for 9 an hour. That shyts done.

Whats not realistic is expecting your business to grow or make a ton of money when the shopping season hits this winter and you dont have staff in 90% of the fukking stores.

Thats the "realistic" a lot of these companies are about to learn.

Meanwhile min wage:

shyt is common sense. People not gonna work for you just to be homeless, they can be homeless and broke without a fukking job. Make it make sense.

All that shyt is not worth it if it is not accompanied by a livable wage.

Right here, this is where you failed.
18-21 you shouldn't be concerned with earning a "livable wage" tell me, do you know what a livable wage intel's?..being able to comfortably pay your rent/mortgage an car while living modestly.

Your never going to get that working at Burger King or retail unless your management and your suppose to get that, if acquiring livable wages were that easy what would anyone's motivation be to aspire to higher grounds?

That's like saying you should be able to retire off driving lyft or uber:mjlol:

Naw, you should be driving lyft or uber as a add-on job, or part time job, or a job you do when your retired.

These jobs were never ment for you to live off them.

You must remember a lot of people don't have a pathway for success envisioned.. Some also lack patience.. They need it right now.. Lastly, some people household situations so fcked up, they need to move out as soon as H.S graduation is done..
