This’ll probably get lost, but I have a DMX story.

One cold stormy night as a pasty white teen I was driving my shytty Corolla down the highway and my tire blew. I was able to get into a gas station but my jack wasn’t in the trunk. I tried to borrow one off the station, but they said they didn’t have one.

Out of the dark and storm drives this massive black SUV, bass blasting. This guy hops out the back, sees my tire, and comes over to ask if I need help. I explained my story and he immediately went to look for his jack. Turns out it was a rental and didn’t have one, but he offered his phone so I could call home (the station wouldn’t let me use theirs).

The lady that got out of the drivers seat said I must feel lucky, DMX helping me out like this. My face must have looked stupid because she asked “You know who DMX is, right?” I had no clue.

They went into the store, bought their stuff. DMX offered to wait with me, but my mom was close by.

So off they drove into the night. I always meant to look up his music, but to this day I don’t think I’ve ever heard anything.

I will never forget the kindness this man showed to some random kid at 2am in a gas station lot. I know it shouldn’t matter, but his fame makes it mean that much more to me.

I hope you can find peace, friend. Whatever else you had going in your life, when I was at one of my lowest your kindness meant so much.”

Everything I can say about DMX, and his impact is in this post I wrote years ago on here, I don't even listen to "Slippin" like that, because I'll pretty much get choked up or want to full on cry, only Dear Mama had that kind of affect on me

"Another of my favorite songs of all time.....I was about 14 when it came out, and even as a kid, with little idea of how my life would go, and much more personally I would relate to the song, I used to zone the fukk out listening to 'Slippin', on my way to school in my tape player or laying on the floor in my room....I fukked around with coke heavy for years as a teenager, and alcohol and pills too, so after 10 years of being clean, I feel this song even more, as someone who managed to elude those self destructive impulses, 'possessed by the darker side, living a cruddy life'....and I remember 'not keeping my haircut or gave fukk how I dressed', sitting on the couch with a fifth and a pack of cigarettes....

'if I'm strong enough to live to see my kid/doing something more constructive with they time then bids....'

'first came the bullshyt the drama with my mama......she got on some fly shyt, so I split, said I'ma be that seed that doesn't need much to succeed'

'damn....Was it my fault...something I did? To make a father leave his first kid...'

'used to get high, just to get by...used to have puff lah til 3 in the morning just to get fly'

'just another heading nowhere fast'

Those lines are like razor straight to your veins for me who spent time sniffing coke alone in his room, staying up all night drinking henny out the fifth by himself, took valium and xanax until I passed out in class, always feeling alone despite all the girls and friends around... all the dark and suicidal shyt that comes with depression and drug use, esp. at such a young age...and now, at 30, I get to live the third verse, while watching many around me spiral, including X himself, this would be in my top 25 songs of all time I think.....the haunting beat and vocals, combined with wrenching and painful lyrics, this is the essence of DMX's appeal as an artist, vulnerable and in pain, reeling from life, even himself....

DMX Family Visits, Holds Out Hope As He Remains on Life Support After OD

Family sources tell TMZ, X's fiancée, Desiree Lindstrom, and mom, Arnett Simmons, have been allowed into the ICU to visit DMX, though he is not responsive. As we reported, family sources tell us some of his kids are coming to visit as well and are hopeful they will be allowed in.

TMZ first reported the OD and the fact he has limited brain function ... the result of oxygen deprivation after his OD late Friday night. One source with direct knowledge told TMZ the prognosis does not look good.

Nevertheless, the rapper's family is not giving up. DMX suffered a heart attack during the OD, and family members are holding out hope when the inflammation subsides his heart will restore itself. Of course, that does not have an impact on brain function.

Steve Rifkind, DMX's manager, asks TMZ to send this message ... "Please pray for him."

Real shyt. Those 2 are kinda hard to listen to. Honestly, for me, a bulk of both Pac and X's music is like that. Which is ironic, cuz i love the music but it makes me emo/dark and/or angry at.."life stuff".

So i have to listen to em in doses, at least some songs (ie. Slippin, Dear Mama, Brendas Got A Baby, The Convo etc)

A lot of Pacs music has that feel to it, shyt most of his songs from 94 do :mjcry:

Things ain’t sounding too good with X. Really hope he can have some kind of miracle and be okay after this.

Still hoping for a miracle but if it doesn't come at least he'll be free from pain and addiction.

I gotta find his debut on vinyl. I had it on cd back in the day, but lost it. Might as well add it to the vinyl selection if I can find it for a good price.
