Obviously there is because I don't recall the league going under immediately thereafter. Everybody and their mama didn't start getting those KG deals. It was KG and Shaq and that was it. 2nd tier guys weren't even dreaming about looking for that kind of loot. If an owner was to pay Ricky fukkin Rubio $35 mil then they better not fix their mouth to say anything about surviving a damn spike. We are talking about a capped sport were there are already limitations in place. So there really is no need for individual limitations unless of course you want to use them as a means of getting the rank and file behind you in order to checkmate the players. Paying Lebron $40 mil doesn't impact your bottom line as the cap is the cap. It's not like baseball where it all comes down to what an owner is willing to pay. Speaking of spikes that ARod deal was quite a spike. Baseball didnt' shut down or institute a max salary.
The league locked out the year after KG got his deal because everyone was getting ready to get that kind of contract and KG wasn't a top tier player at the time

As for A-Rod, MLB was within hours of a strike 3 years after he signed that deal. For a while after the strike was averted, salaries came down

He was 21 giving you 19 and 9 with stupid potential. He had all the makings of a franchise guy with a combo of size, athleticism, and skill that was truly revolutionary at the time. Can your really say the same about Gordon Hayward, Chandler Parsons right now? Starbury was putting up 18 and 9 as a PG and nobody gave him near what KG got. He would clearly get the max today.

Salaries in baseball came down because owners weren't giving them out not because a mechanism was put in place to limit them.

The league also wasn't paying anyone big time money like that.

Michael Jordan had a hall of game career the first go round and all he received was $24.9 mil. The same year Jordan got the $30 mil for 1 year, KG signed a backloaded deal that paid him $21 mil on average. There isn't a single business in America that's ready for that kind of spike, and they wouldn't be ready for an NBA world where the LeBron James's AND Ricky Rubio's of the world are making $35-40 mil annually
:comeon:

Just had to try to throw that one in there, huh? :snoop:
