They're popping up all over LA. There's one in Portland that I plan on visiting this fall. They said that the hardest part of keeping things going is the lack of parts to keep the machines going. It's all outdated technology and companies don't make it much anymore.

I'd love to open one in the DC area

I'd love to see a resurgence of arcades in America

Iunno. The arcades I went to as a kid in SF were safe and primarily dominated by cacs with big hair wearing acid washed jean jackets, loud colors and high top Nikes. The Sco can be hella segregated. You never saw too many black folks once you left the turf. :francis: There was the Simpsons Arcade game, Altered Beast, Street Fighter II, X-Men and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at the Pizza Hut though. :ahh: The graphics and gameplay were shytting on Nintendo. Had a nikka begging Moms for more quarters to keep playing. It was like going to a top notch stripclub with nothing but bad bytches for an 8 year old. :banderas:Also, when I was a kid living in the hood in Lakeview, I wasn't scared of shyt because I all knew was watching d-boys hustle on Randolph Street hearing gunshots every night and bullets occasionally coming through the windows. :demonic:I thought everywhere was like that when I was a kid until I moved to the 'burbs when I was older and was like where's all the liquor stores and d-boys with all the latest Nikes and Starter gear? :mindblown:

Y'all don't know how crazy I was over Street Fighter II when it dropped. You could catch me at the bar playing that shyt everyday after school. Always got whipped by my mother once I came home cause I always had some household chores to do or some shyt like that but I would be at the bar the whole afternoon instead :russ:

I had friends go as far robbing people just for coins :snoop:

:francis: early on there were actually some arcade thugs that would dominate the game trying to beat it with a sock full of quarters/weapon. tekken, marvel v capcom, soul caliber, could possibly get you shot...and then when dance dance came out it was a wrap...just started :sas1:sweaty emos :stylin:on that...good times

Arcades were so dope back in the day...there's still a couple around now.

There's a franchise called Barcade, basically a bar with arcade games, for a quarter and everything. They have one location in the East Village where it's mostly fighting games, like Mortal Kombat II, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Street Fighter III, Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men Children Of The Atom, Tekken 3, Killer Instinct, and the other classics like Pac-Man, The Simpsons, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, etc etc. The other one in Chelsea and Williamsburg have a mix, with classics like Punch Out, Final Fight, NBA Jam, Tetris, etc etc. It's pretty dope.

Yo this thread man :wow:. Brought back memories.

True story, back in the day when street fighter 2 championship edition was popping the Pizza shop we used to play at felt like the Rucker. shyt was mad hood and if you was p*ssy and put your quarter down it was liable to get took. This cat I knew name Rell was playing with Dhalsim and just killing kids. Dude was mad nice. They might as well just have gave him their quarters..
Some Spanish kid comes up, picks blanka and starts cheesing the shyt out of Rell. Just backing him into corner and exploiting the glitch, with constant high punches and electricity...some fakkit shyt. Everybody just there like :stopitslime:..Spanish kid keeps cheesing. Rell loses and puts another quarter in. Spanish kid still cheesing. Rell tells him stop cheesing :stopitslime:. Kid keeps doing it and beats Rell again. All I see is the kid sitting there like :francis: and Rell just snapping, on some :demonic: shyt. Just grabbed the Spanish kids head like he Fredo in Godfather and was like "fukk you keep cheesing for p*ssy?"

It just happened so quick. Owner of the pizza shop was on some "take that shyt outside my store", Rell just strong arms the dude out the door and proceeds to beat the fukkin shyt outta this kid. Just beat him up. If it happened now nikkas woulda been pulling out phones yelling worldstar. Just hitting this kid and got him on the floor crumpled up and crying. fukked up part is we all understood. Like this kid is getting the piss beat out of him and we just sitting there like "yea fukk that nikka! He shouldn't have been cheesin". Treating him like he a jail snitch. Weird times man..

The 🏝️ Of Relevancy
skipping school going to underground Atlanta to learn the new combos in marvel vs capcom, and tekken. Playing crusin world, breaking the gas pedal from stomping on it hard. Time crisis, that dam zombie clown game with the shotgun. The star wars game were my homie Chan finally beat darth vader in the light saber duel. Good times. Hell yeah, u better not touch my quarter. Oh you cool, we can take turns tho lol. I first went to a arcade when believe it or not. Mario was there and donkey kong. Pac man, that dam racing game where you had to have precision and skill. Used to go to golden kitchen, had, street fighter, samauri showdown, and that dam pit fighters game. They had mortal kombat and the jackie Chan fighting game. But nikkas always broke one side smh. We would mob and go to the perimeter mall or out in the boonies and play double dragon and king of fighters against players. And the peeps at the malls were the best of the best. One dude had a personal fan and chair he was so dam good. He would beast in crazy taxi. Forgot his name. But yeah, it was crazy. Shyt would be hooded out. But no smoking and drinking. Our change man, was brolic as shyt. Big diesel mfer. Cuz didn't play. He knew we still were school boys. But long as we weren't trying to slang he was cool. I miss being able to sneak in Georgia state and play games. Mfers had the cleanest dorms.
Nba jam and nfl blitz was my shyt.

Arcades were meant only for the super skilled muthafukkas. It was like Hip Hop back then: if you couldn't compete at a high level, you had no business playing the arcade. I seen security guards all :whoa: @ nikkas shouting at each other after a match in SFII and dudes were on that super thug :birdman: shyt like it was the jailyard.

This.
