I remember hearing a story this was suppose to get 5 mics in The Source but at the time they said they weren't awarding any albums the 5 and it had to settle for 4 1/2.....not too sure how true it is tho

His first three are crazy. But this was my favorite album from Red. I dug how he handled most of the production too. He was just in this weird zone, but it made for some of his best music, to me. People kinda hated on this album back then because it was so dark, but I still listen to this joint a couple times a week.

yo @Awesome Wells i was one of those people that couldn't quite jive with this album back then. i mean, he was spittin' sometin' fierce but for some reason it just didn't hit me like i hoped it would and i'm a huge p funk head. even today, i respect what red was tryin' to do but it's the one album by red in his prime that i least go back and listen too.

whut thee album is my favorite by him, then comes muddy, then dare and then doc's da name. people sleep on doc's da name but reggie was still spittin' on that muthafukka and he had them sermon beats

red and sermon are like snoop and dre imo, whenever you get those 2 workin' together on a project it's magic

Yeah, everyone I knew thought it was too weird. He was on there talkin' about traveling the Milky Way and the stars and all that. LOL!! But I dug it. I remember him being on Rap City and saying that he was on heavy drugs at the time and going through personal things. It sounds like it! But the music was so dope to me. I think Erick only had like 1 or 2 tracks on there too.

But Hip Hop was so grimy in '94, so this was just the perfect album for me.

yup and i remember a few years ago when red was talkin' bout how he was trippin' out on acid when he was doin' that album and yeah, sermon only had a couple of songs he produced on that because that mostly all reggie

hip hop in 94' was grimy as fukk, it's crazy when you think about how it was then and how it is now

I know this isn't exactly popular opinion, but if I really think about it, Red's best album to me is

First of all, Redman is fantastic. And very much overlooked because the rap game got way too serious (either you were gangsta or blingy or both) as he was getting more comedic and satirical.

He never had that one incredible album but every album up until Malpractice had 3-4 superb cuts that instantly went into "the best of Redman" folder. In a way, I really respect him for that. Most people deliver one great album then fall the fukk off. Redman was consistent for a long time.

The album cuts on his albums were alright but not exactly great. When it comes to album cuts, I prefer the ones on Docs Da Name. There's a lot of great ones: Close Ya Doorz, Da Da Dahhh, Da (fukking!) Goodness, Brick City Mashin, Well All Rite Cha, I Don't Kare and Let da Monkey Out.

I'll Bee Dat is Red at his creative peak. He's hardcore and street like previous albums, but he's mellowed out a little bit and he's funnier. A little more introspective. Warmer personality. I used to love playing "Da Da Dahhh". No previous Redman album had a track like that.

We can have a whole thread about "I'll Bee Dat". Hip hop classic to the 10th degree.
